Hunters Bump

I am adopting a horse soon and I have a question that hopefully someone here can help me with:

What is "hunters bump"?

The guy who has the horse now is a farrier, and described it as a calcification caused by a lot of hard jumping, and evidently it's somewhere in his hip. I'm told that this is not a big issue if the horse is not being jumped (ie. stick to flat work, trails, etc.).

I've heard of a lot of things, but never "hunters bump". What is it, and how serious is it?

Actually, I've found some info on the 'net...

A hunters bump is caused by strain to the ligamentous attachments of the lumbar and sacral vertebrae. These ligaments are most often strained in horses that are used for jumping, so are most common in hunters and jumpers.

The bump occurs from the healing process of the strain, caused by scar tissue that forms in the healing process. So, a hunter's bump does not necessarily mean that that horse is sore in the back area, only that they have previously experienced back strain.

It seems that there are varying degrees of symptoms and treatment - so now my NEW question is this:

Does anyone have any experience with equine chiropractors, and more specifically, as it relates to hunters bump?
