Well...I would have just bought a hunter if I were you. Haha

If he's that hot, you need to work on slowing him down, make him think and listen to you. He needs a whole new mindset for the hunter ring, it isn't "GO, GO, GO!!" it's about having a steady, pretty, well-ridden round. Do lots of rhythm exercises.

As far as hunter courses go, your pretty much looking at lines and diagnols with some single fences to start or finish. Not nearly as intricate as jumper courses.

like i suggested in your other post. take sometime to start over and really focus on your flat work and getting your new horse relaxed on the flat. Dressage lessons really help and once that's solid...start incorporating jumps again. Because he's an X-grand prix jumper he's used to taking larger than needed strides (for hunters) because of the heights he jumped for so long. I'm not saying he's fast...I'm saying his strides are that big so he can get underneath himself to launch of the large grand prix heights. It may feel fast, but infact it's just a long stride. Working on the flat and working on collecting and extending every gait really gets my horse in the adjustability zone. That's something you could try now as a band aid, but really jumping nice requires double time on the flat.
