Hunter show! Results & Pictures

This Saturday is my first hunter show!
I'm showing in Schooling Hunter 2'6.
One flat class. Two over fences
Schooling Hunter: Open to all horses. To be judged on
manners, suitability, and soundness. Fences 2’6”.

What should I expect?!

***Results***
I ended up showing Hopeful Hunter since I was showing a horse I'd never ridden before!

Well.
We took three horses with us to the hunter show today. two of which didn't behave at all and my trainer was like heyyyyyy kelly. do me a favor? and i was like mkay. and so i schooled them and all was fine. one of the horses star was still acting up so i was going to jump her and then my sister would ride her in the flat. So chip was absolutly perfect (thanks to your tips!!!!) and so i did my courses on him, then it was stars turn. Turns out she's afraid of sunlight coming through windows. Which resulted in a nice fall, which my head broke :]. When then resulted in me having to scratch my flat classes. which resulted in not placing. oh and i got props for being the only person to fall off during the show !

Pictures arent very good. The lighting inside wasnt great.

Like as far as whats expected of me riding wise and my horse.
Turn out. braids?

I show eventers mostly so this is pretty much new to me.

Defintely braids!! You would not believe the huge effect this has on your horse's appearance!! It makes such a big impression on the judge. They don't need to be perfect, just neat. I've seen hunters at A rated shows that don't braid and it blows my mind.

Make sure your horse is shiny, brush out his tail, polish his hooves, blacken his points if he is a bay, brighten up his chrome. Make sure your saddle pad is blindingly white and not too big or small. Shine your boots up like mad, making sure to get the bottoms too. Tying your number around your waist makes for a much more professional picture than pinning it does.

If you are an eventer, then you probably already know all of the above! But the little details make a huge difference in hunters.

I disagree with JJ... braids are not necessary unless the show is rated. They ARE a nice touch if you can manage it, but not essential by any means for a schooling show.

Mostly you want to be clean. Sparkly clean horse, socks/white markings washed, tack clean, boots polished, you in breeches. A ratcatcher and jacket for a bigger show; for a really small show they often let you wear a polo (I prefer to at least wear a ratcatcher for hunters).

As for performance, think smooth and pretty.

You'll do fine, and I suspect the o/f classes will be a piece of cake after what you're used to on cross country.

Have fun. It's a lot of fun. Just relax and if you have fun so will your horse and you will probably do well. Lol Oh and dont forget your course!

Omg are you kidding me?? Why would they NOT braid at an A show?!?!?!?

But yeah I agree braid and make him(or her) very clean and shiny!!!

He has such a thin little mane that usually cooperates. It depends on the day, if its a total mess on saturday morning I can whip out a couple braids on him.
This attire is okay? It was a candid shot sorry! But this is good for the hunter ring right? Im going to go with kind of a peachy shirt. Jackets are required for this show or I totally would have gone for a polo.

Opps! & What about his pace? More of a slow kind of thing or a ground-covering pace?
