hunter show clothing

I need some new hunter show clothing, but I don't show a lot so I need something that will still be "in style" for a few years since I won't use it that often and don't want to buy new clothes every season. I really need a new jacket and show shirt, but I'm not sure what color to get of each. For the show shirt should I stick with white? Or get something colored, striped, plaid? For the jacket should I get black, navy, grey, striped, plaid?

Thank you!

My trainer has always said (for the last 16 years) and I agree that a white shirt and a navy jacket is the only way to go. you don't always want to stick out like a sore thumb. but you do want to be pretty and classic. Hope this helps.

I agree with backinthegame.... A navy coat with white shirt will never go outta style. Currently "in" at the big shows is a black coat but there were PLENTY of navy also. If you do want to add a bit of color with the shirt I'd stick with something light.
Right now I have a charcoal jacket with a peach shirt. I frankly don't care what is in right now, I've wanted that combo for YEARS! haha and now I finally have it.

I agree with the Navy Jacket and White shirt - it will always be in style. Also don't forget the gloves and tall boots.

No black show coats. Black only looks good in shadbellies. No black. Navy is always "in style", and coats are more expensive so your safe with sticking with navy. But now youre seeing more grey's in the show ring, which I think are very flattering, and I dont see them going anywhere. Green, IMO is very ugly and unflattering. If you want to stay classic I'd say navy. But with ANY show coat, I love a pinstripe / windowpane, SOMETHING. I'm not a fan of the one-color-thats-it coats.

White is boring. I dont like it, at all. I like a nice pail color. Currently I ride in a "peach", its a pail orange. You can find a show shirt cheap enough that in 10 years when that color is out of style, you can buy a new one.

In my opinion, navy coat and white shirt are not always in style, its traditional that is never looked down upon. But not necessarily in style.... The traditional look used to be those rust color breeches, not you see how those are frowned upon now-a-days. =D

Navy has always been in, always will be

You can do a subtle plaid or striping and it will still be in. Choosing a light-ish color shirt to compliment the navy, or compliment or match a stripe color, will always work. White shirts are always classic, but can be boring, though they are spiced up a bit if there is a white-on-white pattern on it.

Sticking to those guidelines, you can do whatever you want and have it always be in - light blue, light pink/rose/raspberry, light green, light peach, light gray, light purple, it can all work.
