*Sigh*

This is going to be a lot of work.
I have to work on my horse AND myself... not only my dress... but my attitude as well...
I dont like the fact that fashion plays any part in showing horses... thats just me.

Wear black . Traditonal "Hunt coats" meltons, and hunt frocks are black.
That is where the "fashion" in the ring comes from.
As for big shows, unless your doing Devon, HITS, or The Hamptions, DC ect
you will be fine. There are so many too dark is it navy or black floating around no one is going to be able to tell the difference.

Have fun , and good luck,
Paula

I just read something about black coats being in... I have a black coat, a greyish blue, and a grey... I wouldnt be afraid to wear my black coat at a larger show right now!

I think we would be better off with a navy, right?
This is my saddle, same color and everything:
New Page 1

and of course my horse is black

I would really like to be coordinated.

I personally would avoid black, if you are going to be showing a black horse. I agree with others that it will make you disappear.

Quite honestly Andi, with traditionalists, they never went out

I showed for years in my melton with my colours, far from a faux pas, it is rightfully what should be worn.
Shame you only see that now on Hunt Night or in a Corinthian Class, which I think all show riders would bennifit from knowing the proper turn out for. Where do people think showing hunters came from? foxhunting.
Next time you are attending a show large enough to support a Hunt Night, Corinthian Class or Appointments Class, they run quite late usally, stay and watch, you will come away with a far better understanding of correct turn out, what it really is, and why.

I have no issues with the "trends" you see in Hunter today, funny what people will spend money on to be fashionable or in. Skunk helmets for example , or any helmet that has a name on it for that matter. Not my cup of tea, but to each his own.

I think of my Father when I see these conversations, he had a saying.
Dress like a fashion plate, ride like a tailor.

Paula, I agree, BUT, as we know in the hunter world... fashion is everything... well almost! That is why I moved over to jumpers...

I admit that I did go out and buy a Charles Owens helmet.. and a new coat, made sure I had the "right" color britches and shirt before I jumped into the ring in our local hunter shows...my theory behind this expense, was that I needed all the help I could get... I might as well look the part!

Helmet with a stripe aka skunk helmet.

Andi, your point is very valid, and this trend stuff from Kippy,
to striping and bling is just getting out of hand,
to the point that the rules are changing.

I for one, am glad of it.
