It's not that unusual, just goes to show how genetics can affect the foal. One or both parents probably have blue eyes in their genes and it popped up in your foal. |

It is BEAUTIFUL!! I agree with Halter girl, if both parents had ressive blue eyes, they usually come on the next gentration

well this isnt the first time this particular bay mare has thrown a blue eyed foal, but the other foal born 2 years ago had some paint characteristics also.and her dad's eyes were blue. so i assumed she got her blue eyes from him.here is a pic of the 2 year old which is this bay fillies 1/2 sister....

Yes, both the mother and father have at least the recessive gene for blue eyes. Recessive meaning somewhere in there family tree one of their ancesters had blue eyes, but they don't. They still carry the gene. So, if they both have brown eyes, and have recessive for blue, they have a 1 in 4 chance of having offspring with blue eyes! I must admit though, I have never seen blue eyes on a bay before. Paints and grays are pretty common.

Cute baby! Not uncommon at all. I know a bay QH mare that was bred to a sooty buckskin QH stallion...she had a bay colt w/ 1 blue eye. As others have told you both sire and dam must have had 1-2 blue eyes in their background.
