She already stated that she was told it was no legal. "Sneaking" it doesn't make it allowable....

I don't know if it works, but cowboy wisdom says to toughen up a patch of skin, wash it down in saltwater a few times a week.

Have you talked to your vet and/or coach about this particular issue?
She made herself lame in her 3rd class at the April show and had to be pulled from her 4th, but barely a nick at the May show and all was ok.

Each time, by the week after the show, the cut was completely healed and all you could see is missing hair on the fetlock. (The hair has never grown back in that site.)

I did talk to my instructor, and she thinks the issue may fix itself as straightness and collection improve, but I worry since there's actually changes to her leg (scar tissue), that it may not get better. I was hoping there's an answer better than "wait and see."

And if I were doing schooling shows, that would be a viable option. But this particular horse goes to 5 or 6 recognized shows a year, and I am ALWAYS caught in the random equipment check. So I could just see myself, standing next to the TD, and someone looks closer. Not worth the elimination/penalties/fallout, etc that might occur from that, especially after they have on record that I made an official inquiry about that.

Exactly. Its not worth tarnishing your professional reputation!!

Wait and see seems to be the concensous....that is frusterating tho!!!

What about a liquid bandaide (or stiches?)? Like for little kids that have a cut and go swimming?

I've seen those for horses too--the "liquid bandages." How sturdy are they?

I think my vet put one of those over the stitches he did on my young horse, but it contained silver and was shiny. I'd have to use black spray paint over it!

No way would anyone sneak it in around here - everybody knows everybody and are very suspicious of any 'outsiders' - so it would be noticed and reported.

Do you have any pictures of the scar? What have you done to minimize it? Cocoa Butter cream/lotion is very good at minimizing scars.

Don't you think that the first thing to do is determine when she is doing this.

First you said during flying lead changes, now, you're not sure.

I think you need to start having your rides video taped so that they can be reviewed in slow/stop motion as necessary. That way you can evaluate the horse's balance/position/frame, and your position/frame.

If it is occurring during flying lead changes, then stop doing flying lead changes, drop down a level/test to where they are not required, and work on fixing the problem.

It is also possible that the trimming/shoeing need to be tweeked a bit more.

And, if your instructor is as good as you say she is, then she should, by now, be able to tell you what, when, why, where the problem is happening, and be able to offer advise and instruction on how to fix it.

If she's not doing this, then the question becomes, why not?
