How to keep Palomino's Tail Nice

Halflinger pony mare prefers not to pick up her 30 pounds of hay of a tail when she pees and poos..so her tail is nasty.. What can I do? Anything??

Stains come out with tons of scrubbing..but it's going to be winter soon I don't want to see her tail black all winter again..so gross..

Perhaps braiding it and putting it up would help? I don't know, you would probably still have to change the wrapping quite often.

I have a pally and I keep her tail up all the time, she does the same thing... I wash it and condition it good. I take the tail down once a week wash it out and redo it.

Keep it clean as much as possible until winter, and keep it up, is your best bet.

Darn palominos! Thats why I prefer the dark color mares!

Keep it in a tail bag. That is the only way I can keep my palis tail clean.

I have a pali and i just wash it nice.. brush it, let it dry, put mane and tail detangler in it and put it in a braided tail wrap and leave it. once it falls out just do it again.. minuse the washing if its cold.

Try to wash it often, maybe once a week or so. After you braid it, put it up, like you would for winter.

I wash the night before a show, wrap it with vetwrap (not too tightly though), and use cowboy magic greenspot remover in the morning. Greenspot remover is a miracle worker for any light coloured horse, and it works in the mane and tail. Then throw in some showsheen and you'll have a beauty! During the week/ whenever you're not showing and its a mess, just keep it wrapped or braided.. it's the easiest and you don't have to wash it every day.
