How to help Horses PERIOD

In the South especially, Hay is SCARCE!

People are choosing to sell out so they can afford to feed their families.

There has been tragedy everywhere. Hurricains, this, that, etc.

But it's been 6 months. If you haven't figured out which is more important, feeding your family or feeding your animals, it's time to wake up.

The government won't help you forever.

Honestly, if you TRUELY want to help, it is time to look to your neighbors. If you have an extra bale of hay, coupon, etc, walk over to your neighbor who is about to lose everything and offer it.

It isn't JUST Louisiana that is suffering. EVERYONE is suffering currently. And I promise, you will reap local help better than sending it to someone who's HAD the help already and HAD the time to decide.

Some of us aren't getting that choice. We don't get that kind of help, JUST because we weren't on TV.

Your neighbors, your friends need just as much help that other people in other states need.

Donate to ANY legitamet rescue. Call up your feed store, most take donations and know exactly who's suffering the most and can use the help the most. JUST to hold on until we get a drop or two of rain.

So don't forget everyone else.

The hurricain laiden people are not the only ones suffering.

I saw the post for starving katrina victims and I agree with you. If there are people closer that can use the help you should help your neighbor first. This is a lesson in humanity that we all can learn from. Someday it may be the lucky people that need help. I am not wealthy by any means but I do donate to rescues when I can. Every little bit helps for the animals and the people who care for them. God bless us all.

I know all about helping locally.

Because when I was in the hour of need, someone came to my rescue. I have paid that back since ten fold. I'm hoping, that as my hour of need comes up again (and it is getting VERY VERY Close) there might be something. But I cannot expect it.

Luckly, at this moment, we've locked down 2 more months worth of hay. So hopefully, we can get some rain started, and somehow get through till May (cause if we don't get a nice freeze, we might just get an early cutting if we get rain sometime soon)

What sadens me so much, is here we are in America...I feel that the flag the colors are running and the stars are replaced with tear drops and the Eagle is not flying free, Vultures are...
I don't know much about politics, yet this war we have been going through in the middle east has taken it's toll on America. I see We had to and We did fight when America was atacked "The Twin Towers"
America should not have to suffer like this, our children, the farmers who if it were not for them I would not have food on my plate, non of us would...Funds should be given to people like you Blistering Winds and other people, yes the people can't count on the goverment forever, yet some people have a only way of living, you should have not to worry, yet you are a strong person.
Please correct me if I am off the subject here. I just really feel America should "Not" have to suffer. We need to build her up and let other countries do as they will, although it is not right in our eyes are for the way some cultures feel and do, after all how would we feel if we were ganged up on with our ways? Don't mind me as usual, I ramble blind...venting

I really pray that you will work it all out Blistering Winds and this goes for all who are in a painful situation, God and when I scan the TV come across celeberties, women dressed in diamonds that could feed a nation, mansions that are owned. yet vacant...To the people who are celeberties who did and do help thank God for them...as for the ones who turn there noses up, well when the economy really crashes there will be no movies nor songs, people won't be able to buy and that is when we all go into another depression. edited for reasons of too much going in to the posting...

The suffering of the farmers is everywhere. Here in Canada they don't get any support either - and farms that have been part of a family business for over a 100 years are having to sell out - its really sick!

If I could send hay or money I would - but I don't have any to spare at the moment either...
When Western Canada had a drout we sent hay accross country to them, will the States not commit to anything like that?

Equine_Harmony: you really hit the nail on the head - whatever happened to Christian values, as opposed to lining our own pockets?

usually, that happens. Unfortunately, the states that usually commit to sending hay to help other states, are in the boat with us.

What I generally see with the government helping out farmers that need hay is that they give aid for cattle, but not for horses. Up here, when the hay is short (for the past 6 years) they give farmers and ranchers dry milk supplement, good for cattle, not for horses.

It's really hard to make hay out of nothing and if the weather isn't cooperating, not much can be done to provide it. Supplements are also hard to come by when you are looking for a safe alternative for horses.

I really wish all the breeding would slow down.
I know it's nice to have a horse from yours, or put together a breeding for a certain horse that you want.
But, there are lots of horses waiting to be bought who are wonderful and probably just what you are looking for.
This I believe would help with the large amount of starving horses and slaughter horses.
