how to get palomino???

I bred my chestnut mare ( who's sire was chestnut and who's dam was palomino) to a palomino stallion (who's sire was palomino and who's dam was black). I was hoping for a palomino but I got a little chestnut filly. If I breed this filly to a palomino, could I get palomino?? Or what's the best way to get a palomino??
thnks!

i don't know alot about colour genetics but id say your best option is get a palimino mare to breed with the palimino stallion. Is the colour so important to you i don't mean to be rude but you shouldn't be so worried about colour it's the temperament and health of the foal that really counts. An idea would be if you really want a palimino is to buy one so that you don't risk getting another chestnut, bay etc. Or you could always put a stallion which is a good colour producer and see what you get . I think if you got a black mare and put it to the palimino stallion you'de have a good chance of getting a palimino or a buckskin, i bred my black tb mare to a palimino qh stallion twice and she had a burnt buckskin colt the first season and a golden palimino filly the next so basically it's just chance.

I think cremello is the answer
Just breeding pal to pal is not the answer
You have homozygous issues at work. Do some web research

If you want a Palomino, than you need a cremello or perlino, more likely on the perlino stallion.

You would get a Palomino or a buckskin if bred to a perlino stallion.

My palomino came from a black and white paint mare. This doesnt mean anything though. The mare is blm so who knows what her genetics are and no one knows the stallion. Could have been a perlino or cremello.
If a palomino is important to you then good idea is to purchase one lol
Then you get what you want the first time lol

Since your filly have some Palomino in her gene and since the palomino gene is not dominent(sp?), could be now since she have both palomino parent. A perlino would 100% get you a paloimino, some chances of getting a buckskin or a chestnut but a palomino would be very likely. Before you breed the filly, make sure you look at the stallion gene and bloodline. A perlino with two homoz gene would get you a palomino.

Palomino x Palomino = a high chance of getting a cremello

Chestnut x Perlino = You could get a chocolate palomino(We sold a chestnut to people who bought her for her breeding and her color, they have perlino stallion and want to breed the chestnut to him for chocolate palominos)

Im not the smartest person when it comes to figuring out the whole genetics thing, sorry. But if I were trying to get a palomino...I might try breeding a chestnut or sorrel to a palomino..and hope that you get a palomino.
Good luck, and sorry I could help you more.

The basics is Genetics.

To get a Palomino, you take a Red (sorrel or Chestnut Horse). They carry the ee gene. Cross it with a Diluted horse. one that carries the Ccr Gene. Which is the "creme gene" in most circles. Horses who are solid carry the C genes that look like this CC . Those who have the dilutions, carry either a CCcr or a CcrCcr. Your Perlinos and Cremellos are known as your Double Dillutes and carry the latter CcrCcr type genes. Palomino genetics are ee CCcr .

SO, If you want a chance at a palomino, breed a sorrel to a Cremello or a Perlino who have chestnut/Sorrel parent and you should nail a Palomino every time due to the 100% chance of getting the Creme Gene.

if you breed Palo to palo, you stand a 50% chance of dropping a Palo.

Breed a Palo to a Cremello/Perlino, you will get 25% Palo, and 75% at a Cremello/Perlino Foal.

Personally, you shouldn't be worried about color. Unless you have the perfect horse...which no one has. There ARE a few breeding farms who specialize in color breeding. BUT, they also take into consideration the rest of the genetics involved. I would rather have a conformationally correct Sorrel than one UGLY Palomino with HORRIBLE conformation.

Breed for Conformation, NOT just color!
