| Senior Member | How to collect when using a mechanical hackamore
My QH has a terribly rough canter (and speedy too). My friend told me that I need to get him collected but not sure how to do that without a bit. Any suggestions?

I've had a horse collect and be 'on the bit' and rounded in a halter. I have never used a mechanical hackamore so I can't help you there, hopefully someone else can offer something, but I know in the halter I was able to.

Same as you would with a bit - teaching the horse to soften to pressure.
