| Senior Member+ | How to clean hoof wall? Well, I think its called the hoof wall anyway. The outside bit lol... I have a PC gymkhana tomorrow and the first class is judged on natural presentation, no braiding, clipping hoof paint etc... Trouble is, Rusty's hooves are white and look really dirty even after Ive scrubbed them, how can I make them look clean, you no get all that dirt out of the tiuny ridges etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

| Senior Member+ | Well, a lot of people use a sander to lightly clean off the top layer (which is where the dirt is). You have to be careful afterward to put some hoof dressing on though since you have just stripped off some of the protection and it will take them a little time to grow it back. However, if you don't have a sander or don't want to use one, a couple people I know use "scrubby pads". I don't know the correct name, but they are those sponges you use for washing dishes; not the metal ones, just either the ones that are sponges with a rougher backside or the "wire"-looking ones(made from plastic thread sort of). These take longer, but a rinse, then a good firm scrub with these, and another rinse seems to work pretty well for them

| Senior Member+ | Make sure to use the rougher side because you are basically have to scrape off a little of the top layer of the hoof to get the embedded dirt out. I have not tried it personally, just heard about it so let me know how it works out

| Senior Member+ | I've used the green plastic scrubbies before and I've also used a VERY fine steel wool. They both work well, but remember to be careful not to scrub too hard and not to damage the coronet band. Hoof dressing helps to moisturize and protect afterward! Take some before and after pics!!! We wanna see!

| Senior Member+ | Def a go on the steel wool!!! Wet the hoof, scrub then wet it, then scrub etc etc....and you actually can scrub quite hard to get it looking good as doing this every day would be hard on the hoof but every so often is not. For presentations on site I use steel wool like I said, but for off site and shows we sand. Psy

![]() | Nail buffer. Like for your finger nails works great on hooves too. Smooth any ridges with one of the rectangle nail blocks that are white. I think they are called buffing blocks. But they smooth not buff. Then use the soft cushy nail buffer to bring shine. Just like on your one nails. |

| Senior Member+ | I use a stiff dish or vegetable brush- the handle helps me not scrape my knuckles while scrubbing and it get's them real clean. good luck! |
