How to brighten up the eye area

I think I may just be a bit paranoid and overly critical of myself, but I think I have dark bags under my eyes. I know I could get more sleep and I've spent so much money on products and I haven't found anything that REALLY works. I can't use my foundation because it just darkens the area more, and all of the cover-ups I've tried are either too cakey and look gross or are too liquidy that they don't cover up at all and just blend into my skin like normal foundation.

In this picture of Eva you can tell that her make up artist applied something around her eyes to brighten them up... BUT HOW ON EARTH DO THEY DO THAT?! She can't be that perfect.

I am quite the makeup person

The first thing is to always use one shade lighter for a concealer around the eye area. You are right in avoiding heavy creams and things...that just looks gloppy.

Choosing something that reflects light is also good. A concealer/foundation with a 'glow' type of component is good.

I like this one -

A highlight shade under the brow and in the inside corner (tear duct) area is a beautiful way to bring light to the area. The have good pencil creams for this and also a shadow can be used.

this is the color (Honey) and brand I like for highlighting under the brow and tear duct area -

Benefit makes this light reflecting product, I think it's called "erase paste," that gives that effect:

http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/gp/p...1&bcBrand=core

However, the trick to concealing dark circles, etc is to use a concealer one shade lighter than your natural skin tone. A yellow tint will also counteract the bluish cast.

a similar product that's a little more shimmer and a little less concealer is the sephora eye brightener:

If you're looking for one product that is a totally multipurpose concealer, this stuff really is amazing:

I always look tired, but this is what I look like with makeup on:

Thanks for the great suggestions. I'm quite the make-up fanatic myself... a Sephora just opened up in my area (closest before was 5 hrs away) and I went NUTS. It seems I'm successful with everything other than covering up bags!!

I use Cargo's Eye Lighter... which is like a white shimmer stick for the tear duct and for the outer corner which helps open my eyes up a lot. I will also use liquid eyeliner to play up my eyes and distract from the bags. I wear glasses so they've been my "security blanket", but I want to get contacts but I am SO self-conscious about my bags that aren't even really there haha, I just think they are. I mean I have minor ones but they aren't too bad, I just have yet to find a successful way to cover them up and feel better about myself.

Also... I'm just starting to use a liquid foundation after being a hardcore addict of MAC's studio fix foundation, and I'm having a hard time adjusting to the "wet" feeling of it on my skin. I tried used a Cargo coverup specifically for the undereyes that looked awesome in the picture but I just hate having that wet feeling around my eyes cause I end up wiping at it without realizing it.

I got a Sephora email and I was thinking of trying this... do you think it's worth it?

HeavenlyJumper - I love YSL products and have never seen that one before! How would I go about applying it? I know the experts say to dab with your finger or apply it with a brush... I don't like using my fingers to apply makeup.

kb1gra - I'm gonna try the Benefit Erase Paste... I've heard it's amazing!

Since it comes with a brush, I would use that for primary application and then a makeup wedge for blending.

(I also hate using my fingers!)

Ohh yeah, I see that now. Perfecto. I use the wedges to apply my foundation (Make Up For Ever Velvet Mat <3). I just added this in my initial post:

I got a Sephora email and I was thinking of trying this... do you think it's worth it?

Nothing works, IMHO like Benefits Boi- ing! love the stuff, and it does not bounce back light, as in a flash photo, like any others do.

Great stuff!

Now if your dark circles are really henious, it takes some skills to use, but once you get it, it works miracles. Joe Blascos TVC-15, I do not ever pack my kit for a job with out it, it was made to be a beard cover, but, I use it on everything from dark circles to tattoos .

TVC 15, with the Ben Nye cover all will erase any dark circle.

If you don't like the "wet feel" MAC is probably not for you...professional photo makeup like MAC is designed to be really cakey, etc because that looks good on film.

In real life, it doesn't look so good. My daily makeup is as follows:

Sephora brand primer (or sometimes, smashbox photo finish light)
Laura Mercier oil free liquid foundation or Perfekt Perfection gel
Diorshow pressed powder
NARS the multiple tint stick
NARS lip polish

concealer, if I need it, is the Amazing brand stuff.

I turned out to be heavily allergic to the bare minerals stuff.

My favorite "light" foundations are the Laura Mercier, Diorskin Pure Light, and Lorac Breakthrough. I really don't love the MAC stuff. They do make killer eyeshadow colors though.

I tried the benefit bo-ing and it just didn't work for me. Don't know why.

I've heard of the Boi-ing and saw a tutorial on Youtube on how to use it. Do you know where I can get Joe Blascos and Ben nye?

I didn't use MAC liquid foundation I used the pressed powder and have loved it up until now. I noticed it was making my skin look lighter than my chest/arm colour and didn't blend that well with my actual skin tone. So you use pressed power over the liquid?
