You should really switch her to a 16% mare and foal feed. Feed her anywhere from 3-6 lbs a feeding if she's already losing weight. Feed her 2-3 times a day if you can so she doesn't suffer nutritionally. The foal won't suffer much cause it will pull the nutrition from momma, but momma will suffer.

This should get you by. If she stops losing weight and starts gaining, then drop her back on the feed. She really does need to be chubby, because when lactation occurs, then she's going to pull even MORE weight off.

Give her as much hay as she'll eat.

If you switch her, you can either keep up with the supplement and beet Pulp, or quit. But if she's a hard keeper and losing weight, I'd try anything at this point to keep her weight up until she's to a preg mare healthy weight, which is you can't even feel the ribs anymore.

Thank you for the advice I didn't even relize she was pg till about three weeks ago she was only exposed to my 12 month old colt and every body told me that he couldn't get her pg because his equipment hadn't dropped. three weeks ago i noticed that she started dropping weight and her belly was getting bigger so i had a vet out and he said she was pg.

We feed all of our horses Strategy horse feed, except for 2 yearlings and one two year old...they are on 12% horse feed. We have a 24 yr old mare that is pregnant, we have her on Strategy twice a day and she is a hard keeper, she is also on Mare Plus once a day. You could look into this food if you like,we have found that it works pretty nice for all of our horses, pregnant or not.
