LOL... of course there's those bones in there too! ...My point was just that the structure of the hoof is primarily soft tissue... It's amazing how many horse owners believe that the hoof is mostly bone. There's actually a great cross-section online at Hoof and Leg Anatomy ...very nice for anyone who's never done a hoof dissection! lol Oh...and I forgot to mention...when you have the vet do the x-rays, tell them that you are interested in seeing what's going on with the soft tissue as well as the bone. Otherwise they may 'blow out' the resolution on the soft tissue and not be able to offer much advice if the bone does look normal. Good luck.

Unless there has been some recent advance in radiology(like since 9:00 am today), that I am unaware of, the most accurate ways to look at soft tissues within the hoof and elsewhere are with ultrasound and MRI.

Well I have been trying for the last two days to get a hold of the farrier I was using to put the pad and shoe back on but he hasn't got back with me. So if I don't hear from him by tomorrow I will contact a different Farrier. Its so frustrating to me, being a first time horse owner, and not knowing they are doing there job right. I have an experience horse owner around when he is trimming and shoeing her and she said that he is doing fine, she even had her normal farrier check his job and they said he was doing right. She is even have him do some of her horses now. Since i'm not educated I find myself using other peoples judgement, and i'm not sure that is right either. I will contact this other clinic and see what they said about getting her seen. I don't know if they will, with the pain she is in I don't really want to trailer her anywhere unless I really have to. Thanks again for your suggestions. Melissa

No work, she cannot handle it. I would have the vet out to do a lameness exam on her and see if they think xrays are needed. Best of luck and keep us updated!
