How much does a stallion pass on...

My question is, how much genetical information (is that the right word?) does the stallion pass onto the baby?

Does it vary from stallion to stallion?

This guy I found on Google (he is in Scotland) has almost identical markings to Ace. He is an Irish Draught, which is the breed that we have always thought Ace was at least part.
He has three white socks and his front left is black, which is the same as my girl. His socks are also very alike, height wise, to hers.
His conformation is VERY VERY similar to hers. VERY.

The woman's email is on the page and I have been thinking about emailing her just to find out what he ususally throws and such.

Do I sound desperate here?

It totally varies. Some stallions are more potent than others, and some mares are so potent their foals all look alike no matter who they're bred to!

So should I just email her and hope for the best?

It could all be coincidence, I guess I'm scared that it'll turn out to be that and we'll still be no closer to finding out a thing about her history.
I would just love to know her breeding is all

Stallions throw things like gender, size, conformation, and coat colours... genetic things that every living reproducing organism passes on... Whether or not this stallion is the sire to your horse, only a dna test can tell you that... or it can let you know if the horse is a sibling. White markings on a horse are so completely unique that I've seen 2 minimal paints throw an almost maximum paint baby.

It doesn't hurt however to ask questions so email away.

It couldn't hurt to email, and send a pic. It's totally a chance, but they may have even bred her, so they may recognize her. It's worth a try!

Just to show you...this is the stallion that my mare was bred to, and her baby. Notice they both have very wide face markings, and identical stockings(though the colt's are shorter)?

My mare has a blaze, but NO socks.

I have talked to my mum and I am going to email. I am not sure what to say though - any suggestions very much appreciated

Even if he doesn't turn out to be related whatsoever, I have tried. It doesn't hurt to ask, right?

For anyone particularly interested... this is him: Caerba Legacy http://www.toux.org.uk/page2.htm

One of the things that first drew me to him when I saw the picture was his eyes. They are ACE'S eyes.

Looking at the page...I don't think he could be Ace's sire, unless she's really young! He was born in 2000, not approved for breeding until 2003!

Awww... I didn't see that.

She is... gawd, we don't even know, but she definitely isn't 2/3 We've been told anything from 6-8. When the dentist came to check her out, we were distracted because she had a missing tooth, and the opposite one had really grown and took a LOOOT of rasping. Forgot to ask... he's coming back in April so we shall find out then.

Guess I'll have to keep on looking then huh? Shame, I really thought I was onto something...

Hey, you never know! He'd be 6 (or coming six) now, so maybe you can find his breeder, as they bought him from someone else as a weanling. I TOTALLY see Ace in him too

I'm not really sure, I think it depends on the stallion, but here are pictures of Ben, the dutch warmblood I ride, and his sire.

I wish I had some better pictures of Ben, I know I do, but where is a problem
