How much do you trust your horse?

I was just wondering how much everyone trusts there horses? I've been meeting ALOT of people lately who are scared to death of their horses and do not trust them the least bit. This suprises me. I trust Chicky with EVERYTHING! I walk up behind her out of the blue and hug her butt or grab her tail. When I brush her legs or paint her hooves most times I'm on my hands and knees right beside her. When I brush her bellie and find a tough spot, I actually sit underneath her so I can see what I'm doing. I crawl between her legs, hang off her neck. Half the time I don't even have a halter on her when I work with her. I never actually have ahold of the lead when I do have her halter on, I just drap it over my shoulder. I've had my reins come undone while riding her and sometimes I just keep riding with just one rein, and it doesn't scare me. I let my friends 4yr old daughter lead her, ride her, brush her, and she can even pick out Chicky's feet. I've had Chicky for seven years, and I got her when she was a yearling. I knew NOTHING about horses. I had no clue what I was doing when I broke her and thats why she has two splints. (They do not bother her though. Thank God!) Even when Chicky is spooked I totally trust her, and have no fear at all.
Brook used to kick me and bite me ovre a year ago, and while I do not trust her as much as I do Chicky, I do trust her more than anyone else ever would. I walk up behind her out of the blue, and hug her butt, or grab her tail. I get down on my hands and knees to paint her feet or brush her legs, and I will sit down right beside her to let her graze.
Sonya I trust just as much as I do her mom!(Chicky) I do everything I do with Chicky with her. She is trusted just as much.

I have some friends who are new to horses and they are affriad to even pick up there horses feet! And the one horse is 20 and picks his feet up easy as pie! I mean I know there new, and that it takes time to over come these things, but I also know people who have had horses for years and are scared to death of them! I know one lady who won't even ride her own horses, but yet she gives riding lessons off them to little kids!

I sit with Belle in her stall, often right beside her. I walk under her neck he she's tied to the wall. I sometimes let her stand still in the arena, fully tacked while I set up jumps or poles (we're still working on that one. She does like to walk away sometimes, but I'm never far).

Sometimes I'm practically under her when I'm working on her hooves, especially when I try to get them really clean.

I can leave her stall door unlatched, walk to the tack room to get stuff and come back and she won't have even moved.

I trust my horses... I can do anything I want with them loose in the pasture. I just have to be a bit more wary with Teak because he is a bit mouthy, so sometimes he will try to get a bite in. Little moron.

I just barely started riding him (like 8 times and he only had a trainer work him for 5 days). The first time I was SO scared, but after about 5 minutes I relaxed. I still keep my guard up because young greenbroke horses are never trustworthy, but he's made me proud so far.

I can also get off Chicky and set up the jumps for the other riders.(I don't jump) , and most times she follows me or stays put. lol

Belle sometimes follows me too, it's so cute! ^__^ Then there's the fact that I love playing with her in the arena.

I trust Melody completely. That does NOT mean that I don't think that she can and will hurt me (never intentionally, but they are thousand pound prey animals with hooves and teeth and minds of their own), but I trust that I know her well enough to anticipate her next movement before she knows it herself and avoid danger. She has not hurt me in a LONG time, and I feel completely COMFORTABLE around her, but that doesn't mean that I need put myself in situations that I know are unreasonably dangerous.

Even though I just got my horse... I trust him with all my heart. That isn't very safe is it???
I guess I trust him A LOT.

I've walked under him (by accident!! )
I've tried jumping onto him in his stall and the ceiling is only like... 7 or 8 feet high.
I've left him tacked in the stall.
I leave the door open sometimes.
I put the lead rope over his neck and do his feet and he doesnt move. (maybe a step or two but not much)

He is such a good boy. The perfect attitude towards everything. No snootyness!

Trust with Regal is relative.

I don't think it's smart or safe to ever trust a prey animal 100%. They are flight creatures and individual personality and training can never override that.

I can do *anything* with Regal on the ground. I frequently lead him around with his lead rope knotted around his neck and him just following me. When I go out to "catch" him I go out, put his halter on, and just walk away- he comes.

I trust him a lot less under saddle. Not spookiness, just that he's an athletic horse that can MOVE, and he's also a cheater-lazy-bum so it's not totally out of character for him to take advantage of being ridden sloppy to throw in some excitement.

Actually he's probably a perfect horse for me to climb the levels on, because he's so wonderful on the ground, but makes me ride every step consciously.

Agreed with this, and Lindseyanne I certainly trust Dodger and am not afraid of him at all, but even around the calmest horses you need to be aware and conscious of what you are doing. I certainly try not to put myself into dangerous situation, they are 1000 lb prey animals with minds of their own, as huntseat said
