how much beet pulp to feed?

Kitty has lost some weight the past couple weeks, and we have decided to change her feed around. She was getting half a scoop of 10% sweet feed.

She is now on senior feed (will have to look exactly which), and beet pulp, as well as free choice hay.

So my question is how much beet pulp should I give her? And I mix it with water right? this is my first time messing with beet pulp so any help is appreciated!

I just started beet pulp today for the same reason.... I let it soak but my little high maintenance princess didnt like it and refused to eat her dinner.... just turned her nose up at it.... what a brat! So I am going to try tomorrow with it dry.....

But i would like to know as well how much I should be adding I just started her off with about 3/4 feed scoop full.

You may need to add some maple syrup in it or apple sauce. I would start out slow and small amounts too. It's an aquired taste. Some take right to it. Some have to warm up to it. Also I know if it's not warm my mare won't touch it. I would use a cup for about a week then add two cup's and so forth till your up to an amount your happy with. Now with my mare she doesn't eat hay like she used to with the beet pulp in her grain. I barely feed her a flake every other day now. She is fat and happy! here is a few photos. One of before beet pulp and about a month or two ago.

    before

a few months on beet pulp

    Now

Keep in mind beet pulp is NOT a solution to poor matience. I have had this horses teeth floated for the last two years now 3x a year. She has been on daily wormer with monthly paste wormers. She also is on a 16% feed. I have backed her down on the beet pulp to once a week now and she is maintaining. Her grain was cut back as well to just a scoop and half instead of two. I am very pleased with how she is looking! I infact have been stewing on cutting her feed back some more as she looks to be getting fat deposits on her butt lol. She runs and plays and still rides like a young horse. She goes down next month to get a tooth pulled and a thorough dental work up done.

My 17.3h gelding ate a full bucket soaked in the am and pm with weight builder and a small scoop of senior feed, I usually added rice bran too. This was in addition to hay. He was a very hard keeper and in good health. My current TB filly usually eats a full bucket soaked with a scoop of healthy edge and 2 scoops weight builder in the evening. She eats about half a bucket now that its spring. one scoop dry makes about a full bucket when soaked.

Which sr feed did you switch to, when, and how much is she getting?

Make sure she's getting at least the minimally recommended amount, which will be in the 5+lb range. Give that a couple of weeks before adding or increasing something else. Give each change a couple of weeks so you know if it's working

We switched her over to Dunmore Senior Feed, she gets a full scoop morning and night.

I also started with 1 cup of shredded beet pulp for right now for her to get use to it.
