I don't have actually neck sweats so this is what i used. 2 large trash bags, duc tape (to tape the bags at the nck so the don't slide down, tape does NOT touch horse!), and a winter hood (which i already had). I didn't use any of the lotions or oils because he sweated pretty good on his own but you would have to look into that further for yourself. Put the sweats (use 2 if you have them) on and work the horse for about 30mins (you HAVE to have a good sweat going!), than let the horse stand tied with the sweats on for an hour (2 if you are on a small time frame to get the neck sweated down).

I didn't keep over night warmers or anything on my yearlings neck 24/7. Just his daily sweating as said above and that after pic eailer in the thread was only 5 or 6 days of sweating

If I get around to doing this, I'll probably only sweat while she's being worked. I've heard that some people keep them on almost all the time, though... and use different sweat combinations for rest vs. work, etc. That's probably more effective, but I'm not THAT serious about it.

The key is you HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD SWEAT going on under the hood or sweats!!!!! I personally REALLY liked the 2 trash bags and the winter hood way lol. Without a really good sweat you WILL NOT get results

I dont agree with the last statement. Our yearling (well almost two) stud colt gets quite the neck/throatlatch going, we sweat him during the show season, just the standard neoprene sweat you would buy, and only have him wear it in his stall. and our four year old mare, we use a sweat that just focuses on the throatlatch. she is in pasture all the time and wears hers. We have never worked a horse with a sweat on. We most certainly see results. I wish i was on my computer because i would post some pictures. | |

There's more to sweating than cosmetics. If the horse has a thick throatlatch it will be increasingly hard to breathe naturally while flexing the neck. A thick neck will cut the air flow if the neck is flexed too much. If I needed to, I would sweat any horse I had living in a stall. I'm lucky the horse I had in a stall that I was training has a gorgeous natural pencil neck.

that statement was meant purely for the people that were saying they wouldn't leave the sweats on all the time. if your horse has the sweats on for long periods of time (like being stalled) then it works. But to just put the sweat on for an hour or 2 without having a sweat going doesn't work so well
