I dont think it would be fun...
You have to do layering. Then use different sweats for different times of the day- stalling, being worked, over night, etc... then you have to worry about neck "nasties"... just too much. Then again, maybe I'm lazy

ok why is it a bad thing to have a horse with lots of chrome when you are showing in halter?? I love lots of chrome.....
The foal that I'm planing having next year out of my quarter horse mare will have lots of chrome. I know this because the stud I bred her to makes a baby with tons of chrome. I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! He definitely has a stamp.
But I was wanting to show him in halter next year (because he will be in the KY born and bred incentive fund), but I don't want to take away his chrome....
can I just leave it on......PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE?????!!! lol

I dont sweat, sometimes I should but like others have said I'm just too lazy. Its so much work. I have to many other things going on in my life to add twice the barn time for neck sweats. Call me lazy!

I don't know, I really enjoy "fiddling" and experimenting with different things when it comes to the horses. So I think exploring this might be fun! Yup, I'm weird.

Might as well get the kinks ironed out now, while it doesn't matter if she looks ridiculous! If I'm in the position to show at all in the next couple of years, and decide that I'd like to trim her up a little, it'll be nice to have worked out a strategy in advance.

Its undesired because depending on where the chrome is and how it sits on the horse (mainly the legs and along the muscles) it can make a straight leg appear crooked, make one leg look longer/shorter than the other, if there's alot of body white then depending on where it sits it can make a should appear straighter than it is and "hide" muscle tone.

Uneven chrome can just make thing APPEAR differently as they are because of the contrast where the white begins and such. That's the way it was explained to me at least. I have been told that my colt ALMOST has too much white . Personally i LOVE chrome though lol.

Not trying to hijack the thread but what kind of neck sweats do you use? How long are they left on? Do you have to use the sweating oils and lotions? My Arab has a very think neck and I'd like to trim it up for shows.

So I have never used a sweat, but how long do you on average need to leave them on per day, and how many days? I know each horse is a little different but average..?? My horses are pastured 24/7, so I guess that really wouldn't work would it? They'd be pulling them off of each other ... lol
