| Senior Member | How many of you have a partboarder So I was thinking on my way home, how many people on HGS have partboarders. I never really see threads about them at all. Is it just a big thing here to have them or do others have them too? I know at my barn a lot of the horses have a partboarder or two or else are available to partboard. if you do have one, why? I personally have Flint available to partboard because I think hes a very gentle horse than can teach others a lot. He does so well with other riders and even beginners (although hes not available to beginners) I personally have fights with him once in a while but its just me pushing him harder than he wants and us both getting upset. I also do it because Im trying to save up for another horse but still want him some where that I can ride and train him during the winter.

| Senior Member+ | I went ahead and voted yes, as im hoping to have breyer "half leased"/ a part boarder for him in the "near" future. He's only available to ONE person-and that is one of my friend's mom (she-the mom-is a good friend of mine too). anyways-my friend's mom was talking to me about Breyer at our year end awards banquet back in January. Breyer and I do the jumpers, but he has the capability to do Dressage as well...and this lady is a dressage rider. She's been interested in getting her own horse (as she's been sharing her daughter's hunter horse for a while now and she wants her daughter to focus on their hunter/eq) but she's going back to school right now so she said a lease of any kind (particularly a half lease) would be the easiest for her right now. Well at banquet she asked if she could start riding breyer a little bit...just to try him out, see what he's like, maybe take a few lessons on him (he's the size she's looking for and everything) and just get him ridden/worked for me during the week as im away at college all week and don't get to ride until i go home on the weekends. Well, she has fallen in love with breyer and just adores him-and she takes SUCH good care of him for me!!! yay! makes me so happy! he's been absolutely wonderful for her and he's really doing well with the dressage stuff! SO-i got to thinking...he NEEDS to be ridden during the week while im gone-its helping him wonders, they both get along sooo well and they're doing so well, he's pretty much everything she's looking for, we both want him to have stall board (he's currently on pasture board), and it would help me a TON while im in school to have someone to share the bills with! so why not let her half lease him?! She would just pay half of his stall board, half of his farrier bills, half of his supplements, and then help with any vet bills if needed...it would be so much easier for the both of us, and he would get ridden and VERY WELL cared for while im gone during the week, and she could lease him for as long as she wanted...i don't plan on going anywhere (i.e. moving barns and such) as long as i can help it- so i proposed this wonderful idea to my trainer...she thought it was a fantastic idea, and we're going to mention it to the lady next time she's out at the barn! soo im crossing my fingers for this one-it would be so great if it worked out!! and as for JP, he's "free leased" to one of my friends while im in school, to be a pasture pony (he's retired) to her filly...he loves it, but it's not exactly my favorite situation (long story), but it's working for now so im trying not to complain...it's hard though! *sorry for the story book!*

| Senior Member+ | None of my horses are. But once Sage has her baby and such, I will be "part boarding" her with either my cuzin or one of my friends. Course, its more of a "free lease" or a, use her cuz then I dont have to worry about her soo much LOL. And Monica will possibly be half leased this summer.

| Senior Member | NO because Ashton is not a easy horse to ride, and the last thing I want to have happen is that all the work I have done with him get undone.

| Senior Member | I voted yes, as a close friend of mine is leasing Abby when I go off to college next year. I trust the girl's abilities with Abby, and she's very gentle. She and Abby get along well. She used to ride Babe (before she went lame), but Babe was a bit of a handful for her. I think Abby is a much better fit for her.

| Senior Member+ | I think the term "leasing" is used more commonly - at least here in the States. I've leased out horses before and lease my school horses also

| Senior Member+ | most people call it leasing. I leased my horse for a year before purchasing him. I was actually more than happy to just keep leasing but the owner put pressure on me to buy by saying the horse was sold for $8k to another person (who had never seen him, it was pretty obvious it was made up). By the time the lease was almost over (2 days out) she broke down and admitted there was no other lady and that she would accept my lower offer on the horse. When we went to get his papers from her friend she made a comment like "I had a friend asking me to lease Bon this year, its kind of sad we sold him" I was ready to say "We were more than happy to keep leasing the horse until you tried to pressure us and to sell him out from under us =) " My instructor does partial leases with several horses with the understanding that they call before they come out to ride so she can plan her lessons around them if the horse is needed. She also has 1 day a week where she gets the horse no matter what since its group lessons and all the lesson horses are needed. After the group lessons are over the person can ride the horse for a short amount of time (about 30 mins) if they like. She overall encourages her leasers to come out and ride their horses everday. Anyone who leases a horse gets to show that horse for the season since there are about 7 kids to each lesson horse so it wouldnt be fair to let one kid show a horse and another not. So whoever has the lease gets showing rights. They basically pay the horses boarding bill and thats it. They are expected however to take care of the horse, so grooming, washing, riding, any extra supplements that they want that the horse doesnt need to be ridden etc they have to purchase. However they dont have to muck the stalls, clean the waters or feed the horse themselves. |

| Full Member | I have a part-boarder who has way more expirience then myself and teaches my horse so many things. Some days I think I should be paying her lol. Luckily for me she enjoys it and thinks my horse is a gentleman. I wonder who's horse she's actually riding? lmao!! But yeah. I needed the part-boarder for a little bit of extra $$$ and to help keep my horse in shape. It took almost 5 months untill I found the right one. |

| Full Member | I don't have one, but I could use the extra money and free time! IF I were to lease my horse in the near future, it would have to be to an experienced adult, who preferably does dressage (I like to limit/control the amount of jumping my horse does). I think I am too "picky" right to handle a leaser right now, but when my mare gets older (she'll be 7 in may, so I still think of her as a "baby" lol) and get a new prospect, I probably will lease her out. Pretty much anyone can ride her now (well, anyone who knows how to ride...), but I'd like to get her a bit more "finished" before I hand over 50% of her training to someone else. (maybe I am a control freak??) |
