| Senior Member+ | My ferrier comes and does three trims and he's usually there about maybe 30 minutes. My horses all stand there great.....probably must of the time is him just chatting away. haha 4 hours seems like a long time....but if she does a good job, then who cares! lol |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i tip my farrier. i know we can be whiney about the cost but i know MY farrier is worth his weight in oil. my horses like him, their feet are happy, he's been my farrier for better than 10 years, too, so he knows my animals well. no complaints. thanks for the reminder, County : )

| Senior Member+ | I try to take darn good care of my farriers. But a farrier chooses their job. They are not forced into it. Anyone who decides to, essentially, run their own business knows the pros and cons in advance: no paid vacation (that's what saving is for), possibility of injury, lapses in business. Only idiots go into that sort of thing blind. I am hoping to go to school for equine dentistry next year, which will pose some of the very same problems. And I will definitely be squirreling money away to cover the slow times while business is good!

What the heck are they doing for that long? 20-25 minutes tops, and thats if I have to get the horse and take it back to its stall. Unless it is someone just starting out, I'd be appalled if someone calling themselves a professional took that long to correctly trim a horse with no major hoof pathology.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | About 10-15 minutes per horse for a trim. Compared to a lot of your farriers, ours is quick! hahaha. But he does a great job, horses hooves always look good, and he's good with/around all the horses.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My old farrier took about 15 to 30 minutes on most horses, provided their feet were in good shape and it was just a routine trim. Some that were a little more troublesome took a bit longer, but on a well-behaved horse it did not take him very long at all. That was for barefoot horses. If the horse had shoes though, it took about an hour, maybe a bit more.
