| Full Member | How long do you keep the foal in the stall? My mare hasn't foaled yet (dang it), but I was wondering at what point you would let the foal out of the stall to wander around with its mom (they will have their own pasture separate from the other horses, but share a common cable fence). I don't want to be too overprotective, want it to get necessary exercise, but don't want to do it too early. |

| Senior Member+ | Three days. I read somewhere (I think it was Blessed Are the Broodmares/Foals) that it can take up to that long for their eyesight to fully adjust, and as we also had cable fences I didn't want to risk putting her out before she could truly see well. Good way to a broken neck.

| Senior Member+ | How come Allure had to be the exception to the rule in everything? I can't tell you how many days in her first week I would come out into the pasture and see momma standing by herself... and baby come crashing out of the underbrush a distance away a little later.

| Senior Member+ | Ember was born outside... I planned for her to be born outside, but she came early. She was ushered into a stall with mom and stayed there for almost 2 weeks with daily supervised turnout in our yard. When we finished the fence in the paddock by putting up safer, wire mesh in their area she was turned out with mom full time.
