How to let go of a horse you've had forever

Basicly We are selling my Gelding and I've had him since he was 2 months old and I was 13. I'm having a really hard time answering questions from potenial buyers cause I've had him so long. The reason we are selling him is cause he's to much for me to handle. We have had him in training twice but it gets really expense. I'm a good rider but I'm scared of him now cause we went on a trail ride last year and he took off after my dads horse long story and I couldn't stop him or turn him no matter how hard I tried. Now everytime I get on to ride I get scared when we trot cause he's a FAST horse and just wants to go. I donno what to do I mean I don't think I'll ever be able to ride him and his talents wasted but I'm having such a hard time selling him cause I'm his mommy and he follows me around like a dog.

That's a very sad situation. But at least you're facing the truth that you know you need to find him a new owner, despite all the love you feel for him. All you can do is try your best to find a suitable home for him. Screen potential buyers, arrange to visit him if they'll agree to that, put in writing that you want first 'dibs' if they decide to sell him again.

Good luck!
