I agree with everything JBandRIO said.

i really need him to do jumps i had the vet look at his joints and they are ready to start jumping. He is very skitish sometimes or other times he is waiting for me to come and get him. The reason i am trying to get him to jump because my other horse is a jumper and i think it is a good idea to train him to do that too.
Everything bolded are reasons NOT to jump him. Jumping a horse at 2 years old...really? Have you sat on this horse yet? You can't just get on a 2 yo and jump. You need TONS of training time with this horse before even going over a ground pole.

If he thinks he controls everything then maybe your time would be better spent teaching him some more respect. Training a baby is not about just training them to stand still, you want to be teaching him the basics that will give him good foundations for his later riden career.

Why do you NEED to do the jumps now, if your other horse is a jumper why not jump that one and allow the baby to grow and develop, plus with looking after the older mare that you are trying to regain the confidence with would benifet from your time more so than the 2 year old
AGREED. If you have one horse that jumps...jump that horse. DON'T jump the 2 yo. I have one horse that can jump and one that can't....I don't get why you think BOTH horses need to jump (at all) but more specifically NOW.

Lets let him grow a bit more and in the mean time you can use the money you would have spent vetting him after he injured himself jumping to save up for a few trainer sessions.

And you will also want to change vets. Yours sounds a bit dodgy.
Agreeagreeagree! Especially with that last part. The way your vet sounds, they shouldn't even BE a vet.

Oh JB. You are truly a shining gem of the human race.

No jumping 2 yr olds. No jumping until that horse is at least 4, over tiny crossrails, once a month.

Walking the horse on a leadline over poles..... GOOD.

Trotting the horse on a leadline over poles..... GOOD.

Teaching ground manners such as walk, trot, back up, step over, turn on the forehand, turn on the hindquarter, and "WHOA PONY".... VERY VERY GOOD.

1) Buy a rope halter. It's like $10.

2) Take 2 yr old for walks around the arena/riding ring, let him sniff obstacles, walk over poles, etc... do NOT let him come into your space or push on you.

3) This means you have to give him room on the lead rope to move away... so don't be holding him by his chin. Leading horses around by the chin doesn't give them enough room and your arm will pull them right on top of you. Thus teaching them that it's "ok" for them to get pushy and invade your space.

4) Only discipline for aggressive behavior- if he bites, kicks, strikes, rears in your direction, or gets pushy and bumps into you. Do not discipline for a lack of obedience when you ask him to whoa or back up.... he probably won't know what you're asking him for.

Hope this helps.

Can I have a Pancake Bunny? I will trade a Smores Poptart for him. I can maybe throw in a Wandering Potbelly Pig Herd.

Or a wild, free-range Turkey. We had a big flock of 'em in the field across the road the other day... they looked nice and plump.

Hm. Given that "we" had already posted the pancake bunny at that point, I feel kind of special that you've picked me to point out as "not nice"... Yay!
