How do you know which level of dressage your at?

Hello,
Ive been riding dressage seat for 10 years and I am having trouble figuring out what level I should compete in (ive never competed in dressage) can someone tell me what is expected at what levels of dressage? mabey post some of there old dressage tests...

i live in new zealand so i do elementry that reqires leg yireds sholder in and at the hardest test half pirouettes along with ur extention and collection. What can you and your horse do?

I can do leg yields and sholder-ins as well... is their an elementry test in the US or is that training level?

Look up the tests on www.usdf.org (I believe that's right). It's generally standard to compete one level below what you're schooling at. For instance, you and your horse are schooling third level. You would compete second level.

shoulder in isn't asked for in a test till 2nd level in the US. Leg yields and lengthanings are 1st level

Here is a site that has all the current dressage tests being used in Canada and the US.

Both countries use the same tests.

emily i thought u did novice?or do u train elementary??o well. i can do some novice moves but not very well. i am doing losta dresage tests this season and hope 2 br doing novice by the end of the season

Clash

Once you have looked over the current tests and find out more or less what you can and cannot do---then you compete and show ONE LEVEL LOWER !!

This is especially true if you have not done dressage before or has been some time since you have shown.

By doing this it will put you in a more comfortable enviroment and a less stressful situation.

If you are just trying to place yourself generally and comparable to others then you should be able to match every move requested at that level.
