Cool How Do YOU Impress the Judge?!

In the show ring, it is very important to get the judge to notice you! Please, post all your tips and tricks on how you catch the judge's eye!
Here are some of the things I do:
1. My show clothes aren't the norm. I don't wear a black coat and a white shirt, i wear a darm gray coat and a pink or blue shirt! Right away, you pop out from most of the other people in the class.
2. I try to enter the ring first or last(though it can be hard since lots of people are going for this position in the line-up) so that the judges eye can linger on me for a little while, and notice how shiny my horse is, or how tall I'm sitting in the saddle.
3. I ALWAYS smile! Sometimes i forget cuz i'm concentrating so hard on what I'm doing, but if you are having a good time, your horse will too, and the judge will like that!
4. Don't pay much attention to the judge during your class. So many ppl will pay more attention to the judge than to their horse, causing slip-ups. Concentrate on doing well the whole time you are in the show ring, and not just when the judge is looking at you.
5. If you have the same judge for more than one class, and the judge gives you advice(some will do this)....always take his/her advice even if you don't like it. If she/he sees that you made an effort to do better, you'll automatically score higher in her eyes.
Good Luck With The Show Season Everyone!

I flash them. LMAO JUST KIDDING!

Seriously now. Good advice. The ONLY thing I would caution is this; if your clothes stick out MAKE SURE you are ON! If you make mistakes or have a heal up or something, they will be more likely to see it.
Also, never assume the judge isn't looking and "relax" they are watching!

I actually saw one show that allowed casual dress ( schooling) and it was hot. She was wearing a tank top and no bra. Well something slipped !!

This ACTUALLY happened.

It was easy to impress the judge at Scout's first show.. all I did was follow directions. As soon as the announcer said to trot, I was trotting, when they said to walk, I walk walking, I was nearly done with my transitions before they announcer repeated themselves, unlike a lot of other people in the ring who would wait several strides to start to transistion.

But a nice neat attire always does impress the judge, especially at smaller shows when no one else dresses up.

Great advice!

About the nice clothes...its also important IMO to turn out your horses in the traditional style for that show. SOME show bills will say "no braiding", but most just say optional or required. A nicely turned out horse will turn heads!

I would add that show classes are NOT for schooling; if your horse is bad, and a minor un-noticeable correction is not possible - smile as if butterflies were coming out of your horses butt!

Agree 100%. If you are showing for experience turn your number upside down so the judges know not to score you.

Also: Remember to tie those red ribbons in the tails of kickers!
