Red face How do you find a stud?

Ok how do you find a stud once you have decided on the bloodlines, color, height, how far from me,price range and temperment? I know what I want, I just don't know how to find the stud. I'm in no big hurry to breed my mare because I want to ride her for a few more years. The foal out of this mare I will be keeping. I really like the mares bloodlines, build and temperment. Her sire puts out wonderful foals (I got 2 mare from him already) I was going to breed one of ours mare to him last year but sadly the mare cast in the stall 1 week before we were going to take her to the stud leaving us with a 2 wk old foal to raise.
How did you find your stud?

Dawny, it depends on what breed you're looking at. Care to fill us in on the details and we can all give you some ideas?

Well, you could always search classifieds websites (ie: equine.com, dreamhorse.com, etc) Or you could look in breed magazines/journals, search the web, look at people's links page in their website, etc.

Also- you don't have to limit yourself to stallions only in your area. You could AI your mare. That would give you a much larger selection of stallions and opportunity to breed to one that is what your really want, versus settling for something that's close enough to it because he's near where you are located. (Unless of course you find a very nice one that is near you.)

Actually Pocahontas, I found one in the bar and got rid of him.

If you know what bloodlines you want due a search on those bloodlines for a stud. Then you can check them all out and see which one compliments your mare the best. Since you know what color you want. I dont know if your looking Halter, Western pleasure, working cow ect.. Do lots of research.

I love the idea of the bar but Jackie (my mare) said see didn't want a smoker or drinker just a one nite stand when she is in the mood.
Seriously Watch Joe Jack. She is pretty heavy breed Skipper W mainly from the her sire. Her dam is about 1/2 Skipper W bred and Watch Joe Jack. SO I'm thinking of Watch JOe but would be open to Skipper W. She is a tall mare and I want a stud about 14.3 or 14.2 hd to try to get something smaller.
Have been looking at the Working Horse magazine and it seems like everything a spot is over 15.2-16 hds.
Sorry I'm slow in answering but we had a snow storm last nite and we are digging out today.
thanks
