Thnx!

I groom every time I go to the barn *every day or every second day* and he gets horse cubes (hes an easy keeper ) for grain and hay... but in the summer he gets the same grain and grass... He gets dapples but not sooo shiny and glossy

i also have my horse on a supplement, its called Clovite
its got all kinds of vitamins/minerals in it...
its pretty cheap and last FOREVER
i bought a 25lb bag of it for $50
and you only give 2-3 tablespoons for a horse a day
me and my friend have been splitting this bag (2 horses) for the last 4 months and still have a TON left

it really helps bring out a shine.. doesnt make the horse "hot"... and gives them things they may be lacking

I give my girls flax seed and have seen a big change in their coats. About 1/2 c with their feed at night.

A lot of people start feeding corn oil (or veg oil/ rice bran oil/ whatstheotherone..) in the spring to prompt shedding and a shine. Elbow grease is a big factor too.

good feed is really the best thing out there. most supplements are actually bad for horses since they upset the levels of minerals/vitamins/etc. BUT there are also good ones out there. We have our horses on Alliance 3-D. Its a liquid, and you only feed about 2oz a day. its got flaxseed, soybean oil, and a bunch of other good stuff. Our nutritionist put us on it, and its great! plus it smells WONDERFUL! lol

another thing you can do for the coat, is put a flysheet on him. it will help keep the sun of his coat, as well as rub it to bring out the oils.

GROOMING!! aBreeze mentioned bringing out the oils-grooming will go that too. You don't want to bathe him too often, obviously, but you can groom him every day and use damp towels or show sheen to get the dust out and shine him up.
