How big to make round pen

I cannot for the life of me find the thread about how big a round pen should be - I bought 11 - 12 foot panels and one gate. I think this maybe tight to canter her in - am I correct?

Also, any good videos out there about working in the round pen? I know that Clinton Anderson has a series but right now I cannot afford the $100.

Oh 80'--nice! Ours is 60' I believe, and works well for us. Id personally rather have it 'too big' than 'too small' OP,easier to partition off than bug hubby to rebuild

A round pen should be about 50-60 ft in diameter so you would need about 180 ft of panels. for videos, check Ebay and other online sites, sometimes you can pick things up really cheap.

so, mine is 132' round - is that correct? It should be OK then? I have cantered her in it but I know that you have to be careful if it's too small.

If my math is correct, 11 - 12 foot panels will make a round pen about 42 feet in diameter. IMO, that is too small. I would want it to be about 70', which would require about 18 - 12 foot panels.

My round pen is 70' in diameter. I don't think I would ever want a smaller size. It may be a little large when first starting a colt but in no time at all you are glad you have the extra size. Better bigger than too small.

No help here with the math. Too many years since algebra!
