How are his blood lines?

Hi, I was wondering how good or bad my ex-racehorse's bloodlines are. I know he has man-o-war blood from way back about 7 different spots in his pedigree ( about 8 generations back). But that is so far back...lol. Are the rest of the bloodlines considered good? Rocket (my horse) retired at the age of 10, is that old to still have been racing?

His Registered name is Ruby Lover

http://www.pedigreequery.com/ruby+lover

If anyone can find anymore info about him that would be great too!

Thanks, Anna

I know a lot of racers retire early due to soundness issues, so it's probably a good sign that your boy is pretty sound??? Unless he was retired because of a problem... Do you have any pics??? He's gray and won over $156,000! Wow!

I don't know much about TB's, but enough to recognize some names...

Here are the ones I did in 5th generation or less... and a little I could find about them.

Of course we can't forget Native Dancer even though he's 6th (I have a little Breyer of him )

Hey! I found a pic of Rubiano (he's gorgeous! most definately a gray, not roan)

Oh! Forgot to add... in my opinion he has a pretty good pedigree!

Nothing much screams out at me. Most of it is USA blood. I'm more up to speed on AUS/NZ/UK blood.

Yes my horse is pretty sound, he seems to be really laid back. You can ride him in the wind with leaves blowing everywhere and he sleepwalks....lol.
He still loves to run though (he is 12). I take him out on a dirt road and let him take off every once in a while...he loves it. I don't think he had any injuries, at least not that I have noticed. BTW sorry about the mix up, but Rocket (Ruby Lover) is a Chestnut, I guess I forgot to put that in my last post! I'll try to put pics up tomorrow.

Thank you for taking the time to look up those horses for me! I love that picture of Rocket's father! I'll have to print that out and keep it.

I hadn't thought about looking the horses up on wikipedia...great idea!

I just looked up Dr Fager (another horse in his line) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Fager He is number 6 out of the top 100 racehorses of the 20th century http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood-H...e_20th_Century

Thanks again!

Anna

Your welcome! I thought it was fun. Don't you just love allbreedpedigree??? I looked up my horses on there too.

So he is a chestnut? I was looking at the allbreedpedigree and it said ch G... so I was either guessing it was Chestnut gelding or Chestnut and turned gray. It listed his sire as a Gr and Ro (or something like that)

Thanks for clearing that up... Remember HGS loves pics!

One of the other members on here has a OTTB (I'm sure others do, but she's the only one I can think of off the top of my head) I got to meet her, she used to live by me. Vyshtia... her horse is amazing! She got hers young, he suffered a bowed tendon, so couldn't race much.

Sorry I took so long to reply, I forgot overnight that I had posted this thread. My brain is not working! Anyway, here are the pictures I promised! (I know they are two weeks late. )

Yeah, I love being able to see the pedigrees on the database! I really like to look up history too! My horse Rocket(racing name = Ruby Lover) won over $156,000.

Yes, he is a Chestnut and a gelding (too bad he is a gelding since some of his brothers have really high stud fees)....lol. His father (Rubiano) was gray. He was an expensive horse! Rubiano was bought at a yearling sale for more than $600,000! Whoever bought him must have know what they were doing to pay that much!

That is neat about your friend! I know the young thoroughbreds are fun. The one here on the farm, Maple (Dazzling Gem), came of the track and we got her when she was 4 years old. She is due to have her first foal in April.

Ok, here is Rocket (Ruby Lover), dressed for Christmas...poor horse, but he didn't mind the bells at all!

He gets a fluffy winter coat:

He's beautiful! Thanks for the pics. I love your dog too!

I don't think he minds the bells at all either... You know, last year I bought all the ribbons and bells and then never dressed my horses up. I wanted to, but everytime I thought of it we were in a hurry or something. Oh, well, I've still got them for this year.

I'd say he has a very decent pedigree.
(Though TBTrainer should look at this thread, I don't know my TB bloodlines that well, but a few names ring a bell. )
