Arrow House of Rep to Vote on Permanent End to Horse Slaughter

http://www.saplonline.org/Alerts/062206.htm

There if more info on the link above.
This is just a part that is cut and pasted

We have just learned House of Representatives Leadership has assured the sponsors of consideration of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.

Sponsored in the House by Congressional Horse Caucus Co-chair John Sweeney (R-NY), Representative John Spratt, Jr. (D-SC) and Representative Ed Whitfield (R-KY), the Act will end the slaughter of horses for human consumption and the domestic and international transport of live horses or horseflesh for the same purpose. Just last year, over 90,000 horses were slaughtered in the three foreign-owned horse slaughter facilities located in Texas and Illinois.

We have always believed that, if given a fair chance and an open vote, Congress would support this complete ban. Four separate times, it has demonstrated interest in stopping horse slaughter for wild and domestic horses by voting in favor of amendments. The upcoming vote is crucial, and it represents a culmination of five years of hard work by supporters from across the United States. It is vital for everyone you know to call their Representative immediately and urge a “YES” vote for the Act.

Please please DO NOT turn this into an argument and over opinionated thread!!!!

Thats not for congress to worry about.. putting an end to slaughter sound good, looks good on paper and gets them votes for the elections..

I really wish someone would speak up on this, but no one, especially the media wants to take the otherside of the issue because is sounds bad on the outside and most people aren't will to sit down and listen to the otherside.. taking on this issue as pro-slaugther, is like a non-christian trying to get a word in on an interview with Bill O'Rielly.

Jess

I bet with all the people involved and trying to push the anit-slaughter bill, it has been addressed. Hopefully.

I will look into it and see if I can find anything. But, lately I don't have time to do much of anything..too much time at work.

So, if anyone else would like to?

I usually avoid these threads like the plauge, but did want to agree with Moostang. Most people aren't 'horse people' per say, but are horrified when they hear about slaughter, without knowing the flip side of the coin. Politicians will use this to boost elections, and I am afraid that many horses will die worse deaths than those in a slaughter house. I do not like slaughter, but I do support it.
