Hot Smokin Chex -- Stud

So I found some more pictures of the guy and they actually have a website that has him on it ahha.

But has hes one white eye I believe. How easy does that past on? I actually don't mind as long as it doesn't turn the horse into a sketch bag haha.

Anyway here's the site:

and here's some pictures from it:

BTW this is the stud Mellow's in foal too

He's so handsome. I actually posted a thread about him not long ago.

His blue eye is caused by the splash white gene, which in his case should pass on about 50% of the time. It is not known, however, how often horses carrying the splash white gene will have a blue eye. Just a guess but I'd say about 30% chance of your foal having a blue eye.

Congrats! Can't wait to see the baby! :-)

Ha ha ha, that is an old wives tale, the blue eyes meaning a horse is crazy. I have a mare with two blue eyes, and she is level headed as can be.

I think that the "crazy eyed/loco" thing is more about horses whose lid is stretched, where you can see the white around the iris, giving it a wild look. Again, it does not mean that a horse is crazy.

As to how easy it passes on, well, there really is no telling. My mare is a splash with two blue eyes. There is a 50% chance that she will pass the splash on to her foal, but the amount of splash is the kicker, and whether it will be too minimal for the blue eyes to show up.

Your best bet is to look at his offspring and see how many of them are blue eyed and how many are not. The offsprings mother's have some say in that too

Splash can be represented by a horse only having blue eyes so it's not necessarily a minimal ormaximal thing. We just don't know what determines (or what percentage) which horses will have blue eyes.

And yes, the dam of the stallion's other foals matter a good deal. Splash (that causes blue eyes) in Quarter Horses is not that common so I would still suspect most blue eyed foals came from him.

Ohhhh great ... more friggen white ???.... and my mare alreaady throws tons bahahah ..

And I had a horse with a white eye and he was nutso haha.

I think it'd be super cool to have a baby with a blue eye though, especially because I know her other two babies are good minded so I wouldn't be worried at all lol.

Oh I don't think she's throwing that much white. The first one's white likely came from the sire. The second doesn't have that much. :-)
