Horses Needing Homes

Hey everyone,

If someone is interested, Im fairly close to these guys and would be happy to go check them out for you. I can't help with transp though....

Here are a couple horses that need homes if you are interested or can pass this along to anyone that may be. Pics are available for both. Permission to crosspost, however please have interested parties contact me directly for any additional info/pics at cripleridge@wnyip.net Both horses are free to a good home, but please note that homes will be fully screened.

Diamond: aka Myster Bar Skipa. 15 yr old, 15.2H chestnut QH gelding located in Lockport, NY. Diamond's current owner has only had him about a year. Unfortunately he is not experienced enough to be able to work with Diamond and is looking for the right home for him. It appears that Diamond has been passed around quite a bit in his life and was in some 'not so good' homes. He has shown agression in his current home we are told. I was told he was food agressive and has also been known to charge if in his turnout and "doesnt want to come in". Admittedly the current home isn't experienced enough to deal with him or even begin to know how. I personally went out last week to meet Diamond. I didn't get any sense of him being truly agressive. Bratty--yes. He was eating hay in his stall and allowed me to pet him and mess with him. When he got fed up-he'd pin his ears somewhat and give a half hearted attempt to nip. That was met with instant correction, which he respected. Farrier stopped in and went in stall as well and he picked up all his feet and stood very nicely (no halter/lead). We took him out and he is herd bound to a mare there we were told, but even at that, he was good. Took him to a paddock he's not usually in without her and he was well behaved. Never called to her, walked nicely on the lead and even stood quietly while they tried to unjam the gate that was frozen shut. He trotted around and when i called him back--he came right up, no agression. Then we brought out "his' mare and he was a follower with her--he didn't take over. AGain, no agression on his part while she was with him either. Now, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, i am just reporting what i saw while there. I see a horse that needs and experienced person that will give him respect, but yet not put up with him being "bratty". He has been shown, goes both english and western, done trails, and apparently loves to jump. I have pics of him jumping at a local show in 8/08 where he placed. He also did leadline for a first time rider and they placed. AGain, he is in no way a beginners horse--but he did fine for them as a beginner leadline. He will have shots, coggins, etc. If you are interested in Diamond, please contact me at cripleridge@wnyip.net for pics and for more detailed information.

Lucky--gorgeous 8 yr old appy pony. grey and about 14.2H. Located in sanquoit, NY which is near Utica in Oneida County. This horse was purchased by prior owners two years ago as a leadline mount for a 6 yr old girl. He took her from leadline to walk/trot alone very quickly and has been super solid and safe. Owners got into financial difficulty and could no longer afford him so last year the barn owner took him on as a lesson horse (and so the girl could still ride him too). He did great--not spooky, just a doll for anyone to ride. He has been shown, LOVES trails and just is a great guy to be around. At a recent regular vet exam, it was discovered that he is 100 percent blind in left eye and apprx. 50 percent in right. no cause given, but it can be common in appy's. Needless to say, due to insurance and safety issues, Lucky can no longer be used for lessons. Prior owners have been working with him again, but are not in a position to take him back. They are all working to find him the perfect next home. He is safe and loved, but understandably the longer he is there, the harder it is on the kids to let go so they would like to move him as soon as possible, but all homes will be checked out fully. There is no way to know when he did lose sight--he could very well have been like that when they originally bought him--we won't know. Either way--it doens't seem to bother him at all. He has been moved to different paddocks, in with different horses and they even have gotten back on him (prior owner--not in lessons) and he did great--no problems. So he is definately a horse to consider. We have placed other semi-blind horses before and they can make wonderful mounts--please consider giving Lucky a chance to be "lucky" again with a family all his own!

Sincerely,

Amy Stockman
