I have been monitoring the efforts of two rescue groups-- one from Shreveport, LA and their sister rescue organization from Texas. These two rescue groups have been working diligently in collecting and convoying supplies and feed to horse owners and rescue facilities affected by Katrina and Rita.
Here is an excerpt of a recent email:
"I was so honored today to have the pleasure of meeting Dr. Ernie Finocchio, an equine vet and director of the Rhode Island SPCA. The wonderful state of Rhode Island has brought down here 3 18 wheelers...2 for the dogs and cats and one for the horses. He also presented Hopeful Haven and another group here each a check for $3,000. so we can continue to do the convoy work we are doing to help those who are in dire need at this time. Before the doc got here, the first 18 wheeler pulled in. The fork lift and hand truck weren't there for the truck to be emptied and if anyone knows about truckers, there load has to be emptied and they have to be back on the road. The TEAMSTERS are an awesome group of guys people. The donated their truck and services to this effort at no charge."
