Wow why do they send them to the slaughter house at a young age? isnt it just easier giving them to someone that can handle them? Im fulling agaist sending horses to the glue factory. Its not a big deal in Australia but it happens and its wrong. If you cant handle the horse then it doesnt mean no one else can, Just give them to someone that can instead of giving him to meat dealers.

Wow, there are some cuties! I think this may be a little tougher than some other projects just because you can get reg broke horses for same or less than what they are wanting, at least in my area. its a shame, good luck and keep sprreading the word, you never know what peaple are looking for!

1. These are not loved pets. (I am presuming, maybe wrongly, they are from a PMU farm. PMU is pregnant mare urine. It is used in some medicinal products, try googling it) 2. If my assumption is correct then these horses are the same as calves on a dairy farm. Or fish in a prawn net. By catch to be discarded. 3. The farmer has invested money on raising this stock. It would be nice for him to recoup some of it. 4. He is a farmer, not a horseperson per se. He isn't into training horses, he isn't into breaking horses. Nor is he, quite reasonably, keen on having to advertise these horses and have people ring him to enquire "Do you think that the 17 hand 19 month old colt would be suitable for my beginner child to take to pony club?" Given the above information do you still think he should "Give them to someone who could handle them"? Why should he give anything away? Why do we not feel that dairy farmers should give away their calves. That is the veal you get at the butchers btw. Whilst horse slaughter is something I would prefer to not see happen it is one way of taking up the excess horses bred every year.

Some people do not look at that I am not sure if they came from a PMU farm, chester. South Carolina would be to far from any PMU farm, I believe.

I do know that one of the first posts made by the OP on this forum was trying to find homes for PMU horses in Canada so maybe wrongly presumed that these were more of the same sort of horse. I must say I HAVE NO PROBLEM with people buying these horses or any other such horse. I have no problem with any person saving any sort of animal at all.

They don't send them to slaughter at a young age their in a feedlot being fattened until their big enough and old enough to slaughter. And why in the world would they give them away? Giving away any product isn't exactly a way to make money if you give them away you go broke in a hurry. Besides the feedlot owner has someone selling them for him/her at prices way over the market they'd be nuts to give them away or sell them to slaughter.

| Senior Member+ | I think you're right on that. I've got to stop looking at these posts. I'm about to rent a truck and go into debt that I can't afford.

| Senior Member+ | *The horses are located in Manitoba Canada (just above Minnesota). *I bought a foal last year and his shipping was only $350 to come down to North Carolina. *And Country, From what I understand a horse can be slaughtered at 6 months of age!!! These horses are not baby's any more, They are yearling's and 2 year olds and being that it is already Sept. The most of the yearling's are probably at close to 1.5 years old

A horse can be slaughtered at any age no differant then any species of livestock. If their draft crosses they probably are right at slaughter weight by two. There was a sale last Sat. here in Mn. with some PMU foals from Can. went way way cheaper then the asking price on these guys.
