Unhappy Horses Are Expensive...

Ugh - I'm so flippin frustrated right now.
I went to get some money from the bank today... and noticed how PAINFULLY low my account balance is!!!
I worked so long and hard during high school, and all I have to show for it is less than $100. Wow.

I lost a huge investment when Mickey died - like $3500 purchase price, and $2000 in vet bills (my parents paid the rest). That all came directly out of pocket.
Then, I paid for Bailey (another 2K when all's said and done) and VOILA!!! I have zero cash.

I saw this amazing gelding today that's a great prospect and would be a great deal - but alas, horses are not a neccesity of life I suppose. Who ever knew our equine friends could be such detrement to our bank accounts? ARGHHH!!!!

Does anybody else notice that they can't afford - say - groceries because of their horses?

Horses are extremely expensive I do agree. Kudos to you for keeping it together and financing a new horse because i would never be able to afford a new one! I would luv many horses but we are scraping to finance the 3 atm!
Not the cheapest animals thats for sure!

I hear you loud and clear!

Horses are SO expensive.

I can't remember the last time I bought something for MYSELF, or went out to dinner, or socialist at a non horse event, because we simply cannot afford to.

Our horses cost us $16,500 a year. Like today, I just paid the dentist $500 to do all my horses teeth.

As all of those bumper stickers say 'poverty is owning a horse'

My hair looks like a toilet brush, yet the boys manes and hairs are soft and shiny

My nails are dirty broken off stubs, yet the boys see a master farrier

I drive around in a 15 year old 4WD, yet the boys have a 3 year old float

My raincoat is 5 years old, yet the boys have the lastest seasons rugs

Get my drift...........LOL...............horses mean lots of money, and lots of sacrifices....

Chin up....you are doing great to do what you are

Edit: Soon, real soon, I will learn to both type and spell

Well the horses just got new rugs and boots for the weekend. Me...I'm living on $25 for food after I pay for petrol.

Gotta love where our priorities are!

Yep, out in the paddock. The only thing that has precedence over the horses is my daughter.

I had $11....i was on Empty driving out to see a mare today (traffic made it worse) so I had to call up and ask my BF to transfer money from my savings for me so I could pay for gas.

You are at least fortunate enough to have one. I just can't afford one right now, as I have two sons in school, and it takes all of our money to keep the house and them going. I am able to take riding lessons once a week, so hopefully in a few years when the boys don't need us quite as much, I will be able to get one. I would have to board it though, so the cost will be high.

I still can't wait, just to have my own and be able to go ride when I want to (outside of work hours of course) will be a dream come true.

I feel your pain.
A few months ago a friend of mine bought her first horse.

I told her... Welcome to the wonderful world of owning horses.... Just start lighting your money on fire now......
