Yup, my thoughts, too.
And yes, may not be the right horse for your situation...
agreed here as well.

horses are smart animals, they can and WILL figure out how to get out of work. when they have a rider that doesn't correct the little "i don't want to work" attitude, it can snowball out of control VERY quickly. This horse has simply figured out that out.

Well, I did it. I sent her an e-mail letter telling her that I was giving her the 30 day notice of termination as required by our lease agreement.

Yeah, our relationship went from being very friendly to being very distant (on my part). We definitely did not get the good end of this deal, we put about 150 pounds on said horse, got his feet back in excellent shape, AND paid for lessons twice weekly (just about) since October/November. To make the feelings even worse than they are, she told my almost 16 year old last night that now it is going to take her 4 months to get her horse back to where he was BEFORE she LOANED him out. That makes my 12 year old feel good.

I would be rather peed off by now.

Firstly she leased a horse to your daughter that seems that it already had evasion issues then blames your kid for it.

She should have been addressing this evasion issue with your daughter and the horse in these lessons.

Hope you can find a good horse to lease soon.

Because fair is in less than 2 weeks, we won't be looking for a horse to lease. Luckily I have her signed up with my daughter's Arab mare as well and my gelding (but they don't like each other.). All horses had to be signed up by April 1st.

She worked him through it before, as described previously, but after June 1st no trainer is allowed on the horse or it disqualifies her from using the horse at fair.

I'm upset because this is also the woman I asked to co-lead my 4-H group. Doesn't make for any good feelings.

I think you did the right thing. What it ultimately boils down to, is your daughters (12 yr old) confidence and enjoyment.

I wish you luck in finding a suitable horse that will leave a grin on her face instead of tears.

A wonderful lady at the barn has volunteered to help my youngest with the Arab with gaming, totally free of charge! She is a barrel racer and competes year around. I hope it is a good decision.

Hello,

I have not read all the responses to your thread but wanted to add my thoughts.

I agree that this "TRAINER" is out of line with this deal on this horse. Trainer was shady in details about this horse and not up front. This disrespecting issues is with the horse and was in bedded before you got him from what I've read. (horse sounds like a livery/rental horse nightmare). These are training issues that your "trainer" should have addressed before you leased that horse or seen during lessons. SHAME SHAME on the trainers part!!!

Since you are leasing the horse, I would return him and run from this "trainer" and find a GOOD trainer who is going to give honest information and lease a good kids gaming horse. If you can not find the perfect horse right away, I would suggest using the Arabian horse of your other child to share for the 4-H.

4-H is suppose to be a learning experience and lots of fun and it sounds like your child is not having too much fun and the only learning experience happening is discouragement.

Good luck and hope all goes well

The other sad thing about this is that I LOVE her as a riding instructor, by kids' equitation has improved 10 fold since October. My oldest daughter joined OHSET (high school equestrian team) after only two or three months of riding and did super awesome.

She tried out a horse at a friends with a super well known local trainer and he was amazed at her ability after such a short time in the saddle.
