And honestly even if you didn't turn her out for a bit to recoop she could probably STILL have a pretty nice turn around if she had some proper training. Like maybe not yanking on her mouth when she refuses to go forward (with a very harsh bit) and instead repeating the que to go forward (i.e LEG) Has she even been taught what the que for forward IS, and WHAT does your trainer consider the que for forwward? A good wack with a whip then yanking on her mouth And when you say the English twisted wire, do you mean a fast twist? English has thin twisted wires as well

No twists, period. I wouldn't even put one on my big grey who was a heck of a lot more aggressive than your filly is. The spurs are causing the kicking out. No doubt about it. She's just sick of you guys poking and prodding her. She's a sensitive little mare and you guys have definitely used too much pressure on her, and she's simply not going to tolerate it. Be thankful she hasn't escalated her behavior to biting, rearing, or bucking- yet. I give kudos to the horse.

I think you should carefully read through this thread and think! This is just plain sad. Your horse is too young and your trainer is mistreating the poor animal. Step back, get yourself into a place where you can think for youself and do the right thing. You have tons of very experienced people giving you good advice. LISTEN.

I am so mad right now ... you think this problem is going to be solved by putting harsher methods on this horse? sorry kid.. but you need a trainer that knows what they are doing... now.. this is becoming a big hazard to saftey.. since your trainer said to sell.. and you stick up for your trainer...must be always right because they call themselves a trainer right... how much u selling this horse for? i will gladly come and pick this horse up next week.. and do some real horse care.. this horse is 2 years old and has a bad name.. because you and your trainer both dont know what you are doing.... and chances are... sorry to be blunt... but i can see this horse being ruined.

I see every possible reason for this horse to have a "bad attitude". For one, she is too young. I couldn't care less what WP trainers say, 2 is much too young to put a horse into such heavy work. And second, sorry, but your trainer sounds like she has NO idea what she is doing. Kicking a two year old? Starting her off in a TWISTED WIRE? My gosh! I wouldn't even put my 17 horse that has a stubborn streak in a twisted wire! And it's even worse that she uses it for correction on her! Please, turn this baby out to pasture and find another trainer, at least for your poor horse's sake. If you can't do that, then it would probably be best to find this filly a good home. I would call what you described borderline abuse.

Um.. if all her horses are obese then she IS abusive. Did you know the more weight the more strain on joints, the more strain the more wear and tear the more possibility of the horse breaking down at an earlier age. Not to mention the fact that in general ANY LIVING CREATURE will have a shorter life span if they are obese. I would NEVER use a twisted wire for english... so please do not try to clump a harsh bit in with english riding. So when you ask her to go and she cow kicks at your leg you BANG her in the mouth? How does that make sense? I am a human and I would not understand it either. Your baby is not going to equate being banged in the mouth with correction for her kicking out. In fact doing that is most likely the PROBLEM of why she won't go. If you got banged in the mouth with a rather harsh bit a lot would you want to move forward? No. Take the bit out and put a halter or sidepull on her... though really I think you need to let her grow up some more AND get a new trainer. Grinding teeth... have you had her teeth checked? (I don't think you answered that when I asked last time). She could very easily have wolf teeth which makes it hurt any time the bits in her mouth being pulled on. It sounds like you need to move on to a new trainer. Think of it this way... if this many people who are not biased against your trainer, who are only going off the info you give us, say that your trainer is wrong... then maybe she (or he) really is wrong and you should get a new trainer. We are not trying to bash you or your trainer, we want to help you. But I don't think we can help you as long as your with this trainer. We also can't help you if whenever someone tries to help you you get defensive. Honestly you have been rather calm through this all which is good and kudos to you. I have seen many many people blow up in a thread like this. We really do just want to help you and your horse.. so don't think everyone here has banned against you (though sometimes it may feel that way, I completely understand that). Some people may sound pretty harsh in their posts but its just because they want this little filly to be able to excel and not be thrown away labeled as a "problem horse". Often when a horse gets labeled as a problem horse they become a problem horse. Because every person who takes them on goes into it thinking "oh this is a problem horse with a bad attitude" etc. If you go in thinking that the horse will pick up on it often times because of the way you act or react to things the horse does etc. There is no such thing as a problem horse... there is only problem humans. | |
