Horse turning white

Does anyone know if it usual for a chestnut horse to turn white when they get older? My daughters TW is getting more and more white hairs everyday. Her face is almost all white now . She was estimated to be about 25 but I have seen older horses whom still have solid coats. Is this normal? She is very healthy for her age but this hair thing has me thinking she might be older than we think.

I have a 34 year old QH who is getting little white hairs all over him-he already has two completley white spots on either hip and more and more white hairs are showing up on him. Horses do turn grey like people lol

Since the horse is older it is perfectly normal. White "age" hairs normally start on the forhead area then spread. Then you will probably notice some roaning around the horse's hips and croup area, then possibly onto the back.

You also have to consider, does she have the Gray gene at all? Maybe it is late blooming if she is REALLY kicking into gear turning gray.

It is normal. My bay TB is only 14 and he has a few little white hairs in his coat and a few stray gray in his mane already!
