horse turning in his head the wrong way help!!

Hey
I have a horse named Pete who is 15.2 hh and is 9 yrs old. I jump him 4 about 20min evry 4days or so (not hard jumping). I have taught him 2 jump and he has been goin very well with it reaching up 2 about 85cm. Although now it seems as if he is goin downhill. He will go over a jump at a canet but as soon as he gets over the jump he will rip the reins out of ur hands and then try 2 stretch out hishead or put it down and try 2 buck. This problem has been goin on 4 a bout 2 weeks and i have tried a few things. But the strangething about it is that he doesnt do it everyday only some days then others he will be jumping his best.
Please help any help is better than none
thankx
bye

Well I looked at the one pic you have posted of you jumping your horse and I am pretty sure the reason he is doing that is because you are not releasing over the fence. You are hanging on his mouth pretty bad.. and I know of a school horse at college who would jerk you down after he jumped because people kept pulling on his face over the jumps. Once he realized you weren't going to pull on his face he quit pulling on the rider and quit throwing his head down. So evaluate what you are doing especially if he only does it sometimes.

My gelding who is retired now used to do the same thing......we discovered it was cuz I was landing on his back before he was done with the jump and my release wasn't worth a darn. Exactly like lilrider said. I don't think its the horse's fault....maybe you need to go back to basics and work on some different skills to make the ride better for the horse.

Thats really all I can think of. And my gelding quit bucking once I learned how to ride the jumps properly.
