Bonnie, I went to a CA presentation a couple of weeks ago and watched him demonstrate his Aussie tie and it worked GREAT!!! I talked to a few people afterwards who said they used it on their horses at home with great success as well - 1 who seemed to be scared of everything you tied it to and 1 who just wouldn't stand tied for longer than two minutes but didn't seem to have a problem walking up to anything to be tied. I ended up buying 4 for our place; our horses stand tied well but didn't want to cause a problem if they got scared or something. Just my 2 cents :-) Pam |

Yes, I needed to update this thread anyway!! We bought The Clip, which works the same way CA's Aussie tie does, except that it has a clip on it so that you can clip your horse to the trailer, to the tie ring, etc. We LOVE them. Our horses do not pull back, but the clip saved us a problem the other day when JR lost his balance while standing on some uneven, muddy ground as Doug picked up a hoof to clean it....JR began to move toward a lying down stance, then panicked and jumped up & sort of fell back... the clip allowed his rope to pull thru enough to save him hitting the end! The "save" was amazing. We bought them just for that purpose!! Yay!! Our friend with the mare that got hurt (the reason for this whole thread) saw it, and was impressed. He was asking us where we got it, etc. That mare is now healed up enough to begin working with her, so we hope he will let us help, and if nothing else, use some training techniques to get her over it, rather than just deal with it when it happens and risk more injury to her and of course to humans. Thanks for the affirmation, Pam! BonnieM

I love the tie ring! I would definitely suggest getting it. I also love rope halters for training. For everything else I use nylon. I love the response I get from them when I use it. They don't lean on them and they understand my cues so much better without me having to put so much pressure on them. One thing that helped Johnny was to let him drag his lead rope on the ground in a safe area like a round pen. When he stepped on it...he taught himself to give to pressure this way. If I do this I'm always present and they are always in a safe area. When I started tieing him he already knew what he needed to do. I would be careful with the bungee cords and the rubber tubes. I have friends that have had them snap on their horses. It smacked them hard like a rubber band in the face or they rolled over backwards. OUCHIE!

Doh...I just read what you wrote! I hope the tie clip ends up working for them too.
