Horse Stall Questions...?

Whats a comfortable sized stall for a horse. I know in the past I have seen 10ft and 12ft stalls. I was just wondering because we were trying to fix up a run in shed to make 2 stalls out of it. We were going to take 2 12ft gates and put on each end, build a wall in the middle to split in half. This would make the stalls 12x12 and let us have 2 stalls. Would this sound like it would be ok?

That sounds alright to me. Our stalls are all different sizes so that we dont have ponies in hugeee stalls but all of our horses have sufficient room to turn around and roll.
As long as you think your horses will be able to more comfortably and lay down if the want then sure.

They have turn out paddocks but this is to keep my halter horses in. They will spend most of their time in there with turnout at night.

I believe 12 by 12 is the standard, and 10 by 10 is considered small. Of course the more room the better But yes, that sounds like a good size

Yep. That's pretty much exactly my barn set up. Except my run in is really long so it's 1 10x10 stall, 1 17x17, and a foaling (17x25) stall. I really like it. The ventilation in stalls when built that way is fantastic.

I recommend picking up a roll of wire mesh fencing and a pack of heavy duty zip ties, though, and zip tying the mesh to the panels. Especially if the stalls are on the small side. That way, if they are rolling or fussing you don't have to worry about them getting a leg through the pipes and injuring themselves.

I have 12x12, 12x24 and 12x17. But 12x12 is the normal with turnout

That's exactly what we just did. Started out to be a run in but is ending up being 2 12x12 stalls. We may keep the center divider out for now and use it for a run in. We put two stall fronts on. The building ended up being 22'x24' with a Gambriel roof for hay storage and a 10 ft. overhang on each end.
