Lou3,

What facts do you hold that this is 20 years old? that this video is fabricated? Or why do you always mention Animal Rights Groups with all animals when people are trying to help. You are a Veternarian student?
What facts can you bring to the round table Lou3 --this is a 14 year old girl, she wrote a fantastic letter, other people that are pro slaughter even stated so, and do you know that large caps is yelling? Well if you do know, why are you always so mad and judging people when it comes to issues you are just plain old against. Again my intention is not to be rude here, but to point out the way you get, for once, since you do so, too often.

Lou3, 14 years old is not that old....yes she might get some emotions in her writting. I only really started to put the emotions aside once i had a civics class. Cant you give a younger person some slack! Jeese...and you are so rude...maybe anything like this be polite about it. And i dont really care if you give me any bad reps cause at least i get the word out there. Do you just not like the younger generations that get into slaughter and try to do something about it?

please, don't have a go at me for this post, I'm just giving my opinion.

I’m not a fan of slaughter, but I do see that it has to be done because of over breeding and such, yet I do feel that its sad horses are put to an end such as slaughter which is ultimately brought on by us. And I feel bad for the cows that run up to Farmer John to get their grain and then they’re shipped off to slaughter too, it’s like a betrayal kind of I feel bad, but I still eat beef, love it actually. But as far as with horses I can’t say whether I truly feel that the bolt is humane or not, but I think euthanasia would be and I’d rather see a horse go down that way than with a bolt, just my opinion. And there was a post on this thread about where the horses would go.. and such you can’t bury them, there’s not room or $ for them. b ear with me, lol, but what about cremation? sounds ridiculous I’m sure go ahead and laugh (I know it’s a crazy idea) but if John Doe here doesn’t want his mare Babe and he isn’t in need of the $ from selling her (which lets be honest if the horse did end up going to killers John wouldn’t get much $ anyway) y not cremate Babe and spread her ashes in the pasture? As an owner if faced with something like that..I’d consider euthanasia and if I couldn’t bury the horse I’d find another means to make sure she didn’t end up on a dinner plate. Not that cremation of large animals is something practiced on a wide scale (not at all) but there wouldn’t be xxx number of horses being slaughtered and there wouldn’t be a bunch of dead horses layin’ around waiting to be picked up by the dead trucks. But if slaughter does have to continue which it kinda seems that way, I just think euthanasia seems more humane, I don’t want to hear about how I don’t know whether the bolt is or not, I just like the thought of euthanasia better. But many people who love their horses also wouldn’t do anything like that I don’t think cuz they still wanna make that extra buck when all is said and done, this world revolves around $ because we need $ to live and be happy and sometimes that calls for us to sacrifice things we love.

It costs more to cremate the horse than to put them down.

It is now almost 75 cents a Pound to burn a carcass here.

So .75 * 1000 is $750 bucks. NOT counting the 150-300 to have the vet administer the chemical buthanasia. PLUS, the flat bed to haul the horse to the diagnostic clinic (our only place that can burn something that big).

So already you are looking at over $1000 to put the horse down, haul him to the clinic (gas for your vehicle) and the burning cost.

There Lies the problem for MAJORITY of horse owners in texas.

We have one other option, pay 400 to hereford to come and pick up the body if chemically euthanized. If I walk out, Shoot Blister dead, they will come get him for free as they can re-sell the meat for animal purposes....they cannot with a chemical down'd horse. So one way or the other, they are going to get paid.

Ah.. I just kinda threw it out there, didn’t realize that it cost that much thanks for clearing it up for me, goodness.. guess everything is just kinda stuck like it is it seems. I just think it’s sad overall that it’s come to be how it is.

Which is the problem for those that ARE currently Pro-slaughter, but would like to see change or it gone all together.

Comes down to the finances.

Personally..those videos of those horses being slaughtered was EXTREMLY cruel, I think they should think of a better way to kill them...those horses were being Hit with that gun like 3-5 times and they were still alive...That is very sad indeed...

And I would pay 1000 dollars to let my horses have a decent death ANYDAY, 1000 Dollars is little compared to this animals that had done so much for me
