I have to say to all, that what I was told i should not have shared in this forum, my words may have harmed some people, fed into the anti slaughter movment, this was not my intention. I did come off dramatic in one post on here, when I mentioned Mob/Mafia...It was a way to let people know that I fel this industry has a lot of pull, clout. though this was not facts, facts should be on here, emotion is fine for this is an emotional topic for all people on here. People need to vent, however I may feel if someone had a way of looking a a horses life was that of nothing, it is right for me to tell them that they should not? No it is not right cause people are going to see this animal different than I do, some may feel as or do simular. The horse to me is an animal so much part of my soul, when I first went for a trail ride, I cried not out of fear, this animal saved me from myself, so now perhaps people may understand as to why I am so emotianl over his/her life.

Not sure why you are apoligizying EH.

By bringing what you have been told to the forum is a way to educate others on what they have seen and feel.

As for the MOB/Mafia stuff, well in ALL industries, there is a large "presence" behind to keep it moving.

And there are people, Mob/mafia or not, that would do ANYTHING to keep their industry from going down hill.

I don't think you need to be apologizing EH.
I would much rather see emotion than cold people who just run on logic, to me that is when there are problems. And do not consider emotions of others.

I have a horse that I have been giving extra care for 3 years due to severe arthritis. Some would of sent him to slaughter had he been owned by someone who does this. My horse has been under wonderful care by the same vet. My horse has gotten and is getting a comfortable life due to my emotion and my logic together. My vet has been also giving him wonderful care due to the same. As time gets nearer for him to be put down, I will count on my vet's knowledge and logic, because my emotion will be upfront.
I put that out there to show an example of emotion and logic working side by side.

This isn't the kind of emotion that I'm talking about. You saving your horse is great, it's great that you can afford to give the extra care to your horse, but some people can't afford it. Euthinasia would of course be an option, but some people can't afford the extra costs that come with that- burial, or if it's not allowed, cremation, both can be expensive. Slaughter can be an option for people in this type of situation, and I think people should be free to choose. My problem with emotion is when it clouds peoples vision of reality. Yes, I love horses, but I know that slaughter is nesecarry at this point in time. There are just too many horses that people can't afford to look after. People come on here and say no horse slaughter, the poor horses, save them, that kind of emotion is not helpful. I don't mean that we should have no emotion on the subject and be completley cold, I only mean that emotion shouldn't stop people from seeing what's really going on, and what is necessary.

Horse slaughter is necessary, it is humane and it should not be banned.
umm....ok....well..its not always humane...my friends mom had 2 blind horses...have been at the farm for about 16 yrs blind for the Appy and the pony had been blind for about 3yrs and had only left the farm 2 times. they both needed to be put down desperatly...well she decided she was going to save money and send these horses who have never left home for atleast 4 yrs. can you amaigine how scared those horses were?...was that humane to do?...not really...and I am against slaughter..and if I took the time and got my lazy butt in gear I would probly write something...

The example you share is of an individual's decision. This topic is about horse slaughter as a whole.
I am sure all of us here could give examples of going out of our way to care for an old horse we have owned. But this is about the humanity/necessity of the slaughter industry.

yea I know...but just because people want to express how they feel on the subject dosent mean someone who obviously dosent care for the subject and have to put that person down...if you are done about these kind of threads than ignor them..not come in here all oh well blah blah....

We all know of people who are not good horse owners as well as those who are wonderful horse owners.
The question remains of what should be done with 80,000 homeless/unwanted horses that are processed annually.
Just because a person agrees with the slaughter of horses does not mean they are not a good person or good owner. Not all rescues are wonderful places run by wonderful individuals.
A person simply not believing in the slaughter of horses will not keep it from happening on a large scale.
Who is going to house 80,000 horses per year? Then add another 80,000 every year after that?
Simply saying one does not agree, that is is bad and should be stoped, is not a solution, but an opinion.
What are some alternatives to the slaughter of unwanted horses?
