I will not continue to clean this thread up.
If this can not continue in a civil manner, some will be given a break.

Lou3 and I have been to the hunt kennels and WE KNOW what happens. It is NOT cruel. It's a good way to say goodbye privately to your horse.

I know this is a hot topic and there are excellent points on both sides of the argument. I just felt it was wrong of some posters to become so hostile to the OP. She is a 14 year old girl - yes, maybe all her facts are not correct - but I think she should be commended for sitting down, doing some research, and taking the time to write a letter about something in which she believes. This is something that should be encouraged in young people, even if you do not agree with the point of view.

So, I applaud PreppyCowgirl for becoming involved in an important issue, as well as for expressing a sincere concern about the well being of horses.

When you are a member of a hunt or you go hunting there are HUNDREDS or hounds that the huntsman breed to go on the hunts.

If you need to put your horse down but you can't afford it,you send them to the huntsman or the breeder and they will do the business for you and then the horse remains are fed to the hounds.

You are right by your horses side until the huntsman take's care of it.

Huntsmen either shoot them in the head (and they miss more often than the bolt and need to shoot more than once)

Or they do a throat slice and bleed them down.

I know one guy who does that over the gun to the head. He isn't a huntsman, but he will drop your horse quickly and quietly and then feed it to his dogs.

Yah....I've only ever seen....Well 'heard' the gun.

I think the farmers do that, but i think most people like to send them to the hounds.
