I think BarnBrat is real passionate about this issue and feels alot of pain around it. I am not taking sides or making excuses, just my opinion. I hope I didn't put words or thoughts were I shouldn't of BarnBrat What I was trying to say on these keys was that to say she knows "NOTHING" is a real general and strong statement, and inaccurate.

Barn Brat has crossed so far over the line that the line is just a dot on the horizon. If she cannot be mature and get her facts straight she should not post. Her comments showed very clearly that she DOESNT know anything about the way a horse is killed by the hunt kennels, or anything about the LAW as regards to disposing of horses in certain areas.

I tried to read everything but after about 22 pages... well... I stopped reading every post. A few notes from me though: The use of "the bolt" is necessary. All slaughtered animals must have a beating heart to be slaughtered. They HAVE to be hung upside down and bled out because animals cannot be processed with blood in them. I've lived on farms, seen pigs slaughtered and no its not nice, but to make it safe for human consumption this is a necessary practice defined by law. I would like to see more slaughter houses. If there were more of them then animals (any animal) would not have to travel as far to be slaughtered. The law in California states it is illegal to sell horses and transport them to slaughter. So they are sold, transported OUT of state, then transported to slaughter and most often to slaughter in Mexico which is not regulated like the USA and Canada is. Slaughter is and will be always a necessary evil in a land of over populated horses. Mustangs grow too big for the area they are allowed and then spend the rest of their years in holding pens with many many other mustangs. The BLM is trying to create more long term holding pens but they cost money to build and for the mustangs upkeep. (And please, no, the mustangs can't all be turned out and let free. They have specific areas they are allowed and they breed like rabbits. They would quickly destroy the land they live on and all starve to death if all were allowed to roam rather than living in holding pens.) The only way to help them is to adopt them, give money to help build pens and for upkeep or donate land for them to live on. Sigh, I love horses. I want to make working with horses my life. I've loved them since the day my dad put me on his. I've been kicked in the face, the gut, the legs, stepped on, bucked off onto my head, bit and charged at. They can be violent animals when scared or angry. But when a horse lays its head on your shoulder and you cry away all your worries, why its just like when my little girl tells me she loves me. It makes your heart melt and you're stuck. Do I want them to be slaughtered? No. Would I send my own personal horses to slaughter? Most likely not. Am I against horse slaughter? No, not in the least. They are livestock. Some people eat them. They are used as meat for zoos. I'd rather they all went to starving masses because I live in a nice house, have a nice car and want for nothing but a horse. Others would love just to have some sort of roof! Who am I to deny them? If people treat each other the way we do, how to do really expect people to treat animals?

Well, who's to say the person you sell the horse to would BE better than death? BEatings, bad hands, bad legs, bloody sides, bloody mouth....... Once sold, you have no say what occurs.
