Of course those activists sites are only going to show the parts where the horse dies and they try and make it come across as "cruel". They are trying to CONVINCE you that what the slaughter houses are doing are "cruel".

If they showed you what really happened, what would be the point in their protest?

But, would you let a murderer own a horse? A child moyouknowtherest? A animal abuser who got out of jail? Horses are not for everyone. If half of the USA owned horses, man oh man would some horses be in trouble. Some people can't afford them. So they feed them scra.ps whenever, they die of hunger. Some people neglect them, just lawn ornaments, so they just look at them, they die of neglect. Some people just use them for shows and riding, they just ride them, so they die of being ridden to their grave, literaly.

That is another reason why horse slaughter is needed. By having the horses go to slaughter, you are saving them from dieing a muchless painful and emotionally stressful way.

Of course you are correct in what you are saying. I certainly never said that those people should own horses. What I meant was even people who work for minimum wage can be good horse owners, and if they can't afford to put the horse down it shouldn't stop them from owning it. It's saving them from slaughter for the time being, which I feel is a good thing.

The horse slaughter houses are no different than the cattle ones. They aren't purposely cruel to them. It's SLAUGHTER, it's DEATH. That means it's not pretty. Most of that footage shown I see no problem with. The horses waiting in line...erm well guess what yeah they have to wait in line. It's not like they are kept in separate padded rooms. The horses twitching afterwards, yes the nerves fire off after they are dead. It's like that with anything that dies. Yes, sometimes it takes more than one hit with the dead bolt to kill them. But shooting them is just as "cruel", and letting them starve to death from neglect is MUCH worse.

Yes, it comes with the responsibility of owning a horse. It is a big decision and the whole picture should be looked at.

Where is the $1000 figure coming from?
It doesn't even cost near that much to have a horse euthanized and buried here.

I know exactaly what you mean. And I agree completely. I was just bringing up another reason why slaughter is needed.

Couldn't have said it better myself Because I wouldn't know how. And well it comes out better when you say it.

Personally, I think that eating a horse is sick and wrong. My horse is like my best friend, and thinking about anyone who could eat a horse just like him is nauseating.
Most of who support slaughter all say that the slaughter industry is necessary. Is it really? I agree that some of the information that PreppyxCowgirl was not completely accurate and she should have researched it more, but think about what you are saying. You are saying that it is necessary to kill horses like your own for people to eat. That doesn't disgust you in the slightest? This might just be my perspective of being a vegetarian, but quite honestly, how can you say that an entire factory dedicated to killing horses is humane? If they have to be euthanized because they will just end up dying another more horrible way, that is humane. But nobody is eating them afterwards.
Oh and about facts. Personally, I hate when people try to persuade me with emotions. But have you ever gone to an auction and seen the eyes of a horse being shoved onto a slaughter trailer? How scared they look without even knowing exactly what's going to happen. Oh, and when they're crammed on there with as many other horses as can fit? Just tell me how that is humane.

Here's some facts:
Horses sent to slaughter are often not rested, fed, or watered during travel.
They often crowd as many horses as possible onto trucks for shipment.
Quote:
What alternatives exist to slaughtering horses for human consumption?
Several alternatives exist, such as humane euthanasia performed by a veterinarian. The bodies of euthanized horses can be picked up by rendering plants for disposal. Horse owners can have their animals euthanized and bury them (where permissible) or have them cremated. Another option is to donate the horse to an equine rescue organization; some will take unwanted horses and find them good homes. The horse racing industry recently initiated the Ferdinand Fee which will be used to fund retirement homes for race horses to ensure that no more racehorses like Ferdinand wind up at a slaughterhouse.
I cried when I read this:
Quote:
How are the horses killed?
Under federal law, horses are required to be rendered unconscious prior to slaughter, usually with a device called a captive bolt gun, which shoots a metal rod into the horse's brain. Some horses, however, are improperly stunned and are conscious when they are hoisted by a rear leg to have their throats cut. In addition, conditions in the slaughterhouse are stressful and frightening for horses.
I think that all of you who supported this had to be very naive to think that there are no alternatives for horse slaughter and people need it. The owners get paid for the horses they send, horsemeat is not eaten in the U.S., and if it's sold to other countries, what's that doing for the poverty stricken countries who can't afford food. The site I found this information was a very reputable one and is based off of facts.

I dont know what your thinking, But Horses jammed in trailer for days on end is cruel, Horse being hit repeatidly with a shot gun is cruel...How would like to be those horses...God..I bet you would be saying differently if you had to go threw what the slaughter horses do.

But I do think thay slaughter will probably never end..I have mixed thoughts about it if it is really neciasary evil or not.

It is an average figure....in some places it is more.... in other places it is less.

Personally...you are being kind of heartless, horses are more intelligent then cows, and they have a better method for killing cows then horses. Yes from what I understand they use the bolt gun, but there heads are secured so they dont move around alot and ushually can get a better hit.
