-Tying the tail up overnight and before the class so they dont get anything in it.
-Bring a towel just before entering the class to dust off your horse and then your boots.
-Bath the night before unless you know you will have time the next day and know its not going to rain.
-Make a checklist of things you will need and bring them the night before if possible. Lock them in the trailer or a stall.
-Check the weather the day before and morning of. If its going to be raining or theres a slight chance, bring a rain sheet.
-Place paper under the hooves before polishing them. it keeps the dirt out of the polish.
-Always bring extra of things if possible. you never know what might go missing.

use Aqua Net on a just banded mane before you put the sleazy on...it holds the bands better than gel and flakes less as well. Make sure to have plenty of fly spray and a tote you can have all of your essentials in to put ringside for touch ups between classes. Wipe out freshly clipped ears with a damp cloth before applying highlighter...makes them look a lot cleaner (i got that one out of Horse&Rider)

Pack a little bag with the following (and keep it with your show clothes)

Wet wipes
Safety pins
Tide to go (stain remover stick)
washcloth
extra hair net
writing pen/paper
hard candy
hair spray
chapstick/lipstick
needle/thread (to match your coat/pants)
$5 cash (bills/quarters - emergency cash for food/drink)

Of course...this is from experience - this little kit could save your life. (LOL)

Make sure to have gas in the generator so that the a/c in the dressing room works. It sucks to have your class called and be stuck in the trailer with your pants around your thighs cause you couldn't get them up your sweaty legs.
