Horse Protection Society of North Carolina *pix*

I am considering adopting a horse from the Horse Protection Society of North Carolina. I have visited their facility, and I left with an extremely good opinion of the organization and its executive director, but I was still wondering if anyone here has had experience working with them or adopting from them?

I will be visiting again this weekend, so I am also open to any suggestions you may have on questions I should ask or things I should look for. If you've looked at their website, my in-laws are adopting Silver Cloud, and I am interested in Anza or Jasmine.

Thank you for your time!

I have also spoken with the lady that runs this rescue and I do agree that it is a wonderful place for horses to go and would Adopt from them in a heartbeat

That's great news! Thank you for your reply. I've added a few pictures from the website. I will try to take some updated pictures when I go visit the barn tomorrow.

Silver Cloud is an 11-year-old Saddlebred cross. My in-laws will be bringing him home on the 22nd.

And I have my eye on one of the following two mares...

Anza is a 21-year-old Saddlebred cross.

And Jasmine is a 20-year-old Saddlebred. The first picture is from October 2007. I couldn't find a date for the second picture. Neither of them are very good...

EDIT: I fixed the sizing of one of the pictures...

I'm leaning toward the 20-year-old Saddlebred mare, Jasmine. So, now I feel compelled to post a bunch of pictures of her. Sorry, everybody.

I think she has a cute face, but what a set of whiskers!

I'm the fake redhead and Jasmine's the real redhead.

My husband tried to get some profile shots for me.

And off she goes with her buddy, Nighthawk.

UPDATE sorry I meant to say that Jasmine is sway backed though Anza may be somewhat sway backed as well. They are both older horses though. Anza is swaybacked. Are you planning to ride her alot? I do not want to disuade you from adopting her but caution you to be certain she is up to riding on a regular basis.

Yes there are alot of sway backed horses that ride fine, just want you to ask the agency or a vet about it so yo uwon't be disappointed. She is very pretty and silver cloud is just gorgeous.

I'm torn. I really want to adopt a rescue, and I think we could provide a great home for Jasmine; but, when I'm truly honest with myself, I want a horse that I can ride, too.

Now I don't know what I'm going to do...

I'm sorry I never updated this thread. I did adopt Jasmine in November. She and Silver Cloud have both settled in well. We've done a little light riding, but Jasmine spends most of her time out in the pasture playing with her new friends.
